Can you go to school while waiting for ead/aos (k1visa)

Are you permitted to take school programs for example realtor courses while waiting on ead & aos? If not when will you be permitted? Does an ead permit school aswell? Or do you have to wait on a green card?

Yes, you are permitted to study and engage in training programs while your AOS is pending from K-1 status. You cannot engage in work (both paid and unpaid!) until you have the EAD or green card. So something like an internship as part of the course would be an issue.

 

That said, many schools will treat you as an international student still...which is quite a bit more expensive. You would have to work with them directly to see if they can treat you as a domestic or resident student instead. You are not eligible for most student aid programs.

it depends on exactly what volunteering is performed. For example, volunteering as an unpaid receptionist is likely to displace a US worker. Volunteering in a soup kitchen or road cleanup group would not displace a US worker.
