Hello Everyone,

so  after using my representative office to inquire on my case on my behalf with USCIS ( as of 2/1/18 still awaiting background check to clear)  I went today 3/15/2018 at 10:45  to Mt Laurel new jersey office for an info pass, I spoke to a very nice lady, she informed me that as of 3/08/18 my background check cleared and I'm in scheduling pool for an interview and once NBC schedule my interview my file will be mailed to Mt Laurel office.  Her statement was confusing to me because she stated that I'm in the interview scheduling pool, and that means my background check is clear. she also stated that Mt laurel office doesn't schedule the interview they only submit availability to NBC and NBC does scheduling, they only deal with rescheduling. I don't know how accurate is this.

does this mean I'm in line for interview ? I'm a paper filer and i did not receive any notification about being in line for interview.

that is true...Mt. Laurel only does rescheduling.  They are pretty fast.  We got interview letter in late December for a January interview.  It never was updated on line by the way!

Question for folks that passed their test and took oath on the same day. Is your spouse allowed to be present for the oath ceremony? I'm thinking to come in for the interview by myself and, if I pass and they let me take the oath, ask her to come to the building.

Has anyone done anything like that? It would be great for her to be present for this milestone but don't want her to take the day off if she doesn't need to :)

Hey all, I had my interview and oath ceremony this past Monday, everything went smooth sailing, a huge thank you to everyone on this forum that's helped me along the way (18 years since I arrived in this country)! Here are my running notes from interview day for reference:

The interview is held at the USCIS Field Office in Newark. You go through the security scanner like in an airport. Interviews are held on floors 14 and 15 (I was 14). When you step out of the elevator there’s a seated guard who checks your appointment letter. There’s also a cafe on the second floor.

Once you walk in, you give your appointment letter at window 2 and ‘get in queue’ - don't need to take a number. They let you use your phone on silent now in the wait room (make sure you're at 100%!), there’s also a TV playing.

My appointment was at 8:30am, I got in around 8:10, and had to wait 90 minutes for my turn. Sometimes people that have come after you get called before, so be prepared for that.

My IO called me in around 9:45. I followed her through a narrow passageway with rows of offices. Once we entered her office, as expected, made me stand and swore me in first.

We started with a review of my application. In my case, she told me that even though I applied under marriage, since I’d been a resident for more than 5 years, she was going to ask me questions about myself and not ask evidence about the marriage.

We went through my N-400 in a fair amount of detail, she re-verified everything on my application. My address and job had changed so she updated that in the system. We spent the most time on my travel, as I have over 20 international trips in the past 5 years. She didn’t ask me a lot of questions about any specific trips, but verified the details with their records in the system. Embarrassingly, I had an incorrect date in my application (wrong month) for one of my travels which she couldn’t find initially, but then figured out what happened. She also asked to see all my previous passports. Finally, she finished up with the long list of ‘no’ questions.

The test portion was smooth, the 6 civics questions I got were, 1) 1 right from amendments, 2) why Cold War, 3) why colonialists came to America, 4) who leads executive branch, 5) who’s next in line after president, and 6) 1 voting amendment. Then a quick reading and writing sample.

She approved me on the spot (and I could breathe again)!

I took the elevator to 15th floor as that’s where they do oath ceremonies and infopass appointments. I filled out the back of my I-445 while I was waiting. I had to wait about 60 minutes for them to print out a copy of the certificate. They call your name to the window and ask you to verify your details before printing the original. In my case, the details were all fine. I was asked to sit back again.

There was an oath ceremony at 11am, but I didn't have my 'white envelope' by then, so I couldn't attend. They didn't have a noon ceremony that day so one of the IOs came out and told everyone to grab a bite and be back by 1. I was thankful they gave an ETA because I was starving by then. I went outside, got fresh air, hung out on the 2nd floor cafeteria for a while, and came back to the 15th floor by 12:45. Around 1:30, they called all the oath-takers to follow into the ceremony hall.

The hall is huge, though only 40 oath-takers can go in at one time. Family and friends are allowed, there was no limit at the time I went. We sat down, got our instructions. They told us how may countries were represented. Our supervisor who was leading the ceremony gave a great, moving speech. We did our recitals and, 45 minutes later, I was naturalized! Took some photos/selfies (no video) and I was out. All in all, took 6 hours but time well spent!

Happy to help with any inquiries while it's fresh in my head...

Hi everyone ..so I have good news and "not so good" news  :(

Both my husband and I passed the interview yesterday .We went there pretty early by 1130 and they checked us in early, no issues .The interview was at 1pm,they called us at 1:15pm  and it took only about 20 minutes for me. It was a real breeze .

I had to swear in for the interview and do the index fingerprinting .The officer checked my passports(old and new)  and green card .

  • Which party is the president from ?
  • Who wrote Declaration of independence
  • Name 3 original colonies
  • What is the Pledge of Allegiance
  • Who is head of executive branch
  • What movement ended racial discrimination

The officer was very nice and courteous ,asked me fews questions on my n400 -where do you stay ,last trip outside US ,any point out of status ,how many children ?

Ok now for the "not so good" news -Of all days ,it had to be a snow day and Newark was not doing Oath ceremonies in the afternoon .So we were told we passed but no oath that day !!! :(:(

So I have to again wait for a letter from them ...its so painful and frustrating !

Anyone gone through this ?

Hi all,

The interview for my wife and me has finally been scheduled - on May 15 (updated below). We had separate applications, so super thrilled that its on the same day for both of us. If the oath also happens on the same day, it would be awesome to become citizens together :-)

Congrats! Your case gives me hope!

My field office is also Mt. Laurel and I filed about a month after you. Question to you: was the "In Line.." date the first time you received any new information after your fingerprints were taken/biometrics verified? Thanks!

The "in line" date I've mentioned is when my online account said interview has been scheduled. After the fingerprints, all I saw was some sort of "no action necessary on your part" message for 1.5 months.

Hi Guys,

My interview is April 20th but I'm a bit nervous about people getting their oath cancelled after the interview.

Is this typical? I'm a bit scared! My interview is set for 8:45 AM and what is my chance of getting the citizenship certificate on the very same day?
