Hello, 

A question about (state) taxes. 

 

As stated earlier, I  just received notice that my interview has been scheduled. 

At the time of filing in late 2017, I owed 2016 state taxes, and noted so on the application with explanation that I am making plans to pay it off. I did pay off the 2016 state taxes early this year - in 2018. 

However, I have just filed my taxes and do owe state taxes again for 2017. I applied for installment payments and waiting for a decision on it, so that I can sign a payment arrangement agreement with the state. 

Now that I going for the interview, it is likely this issue will come up. If I am asked if I still owe taxes, I intend to answer yes, but in the absence of a payment arrangement agreement, what other explanation can I give? 
Will receipt of any payment made towards the taxes be sufficient to show that I am making an attempt to pay it off?  How can one deal with this issue?

I filed early June 2017 by mail. In line for the Interview July 2017. Interview letter in January 2018. Interview and oath on February 27th. As you see, you might still have to wait a bit. Hang in there,  use distractions as much as you can, and have faith that your turn will ultimately come!

I "received" my interview notice today (via USCIS website). 

 

Interview is scheduled for May 22 2018.   Please, can you update the timeline.

Hi all, I've been on hiatus for a while, but thought I should complete my data point.

 

I naturalized on 4/17/2018!

 

There were some hiccups along the way, my test/oath appointment was cancelled due to systems being down. Then on the reschedule there was a snow storm so I was able to complete my interview, but was not able to do my oath. Finally, I took my oath at Westwood NJ at a small library. It was a nice small group. I believe there were 17 of us representing 11 countries. Interesting tidbit: I was classified as my birth country rather than my citizenship country. All those still waiting, hang in there, you're time will come.

Hey, my first interview was 2/15/2018, which was later cancelled. I had some back and forth with my filing, but I was on the May 2017 filers group. Hope that helps.

Hey guys, anybody had any combo interview for I-751 (removal of conditions) + N400 at Newark? I have a pending i751 at California Service Center that was just transferred to NBC and I'm trying to figure out if that could possibly be because they are combining it with my N400 :S

Hi all,

 

I am happy to let you know that my wife and I are US Citizens as of yesterday (May 15) - details updated below. We are fortunate to fall under Newark, NJ office that has same day oath.

 

My experience was quite smooth - interview time was 11.30am, I submitted my interview letter at 11.20am, was called in at 12.05pm, and was out at 12.20pm! Unfortunately, my wife had a VERY long wait... Her interview time was 12.15pm, she submitted her interview letter at 11.45am, but was called in for interview at 3.00pm!! However, her interview was also short - she was out at 3.15pm! We were called for oath at 4.40pm, and were done by 5.20pm.

 

Both our interviewers were very friendly, and so was the staff in general. One thing to note - they didn't allow people to submit the interview letter (akin to checking-in there) more than 30 min before their interview appointment. My wife tried to do it with me (at 11.20am), but was asked to do it at 11.45am (since her interview was at 12.15pm).

 

I parked in the parking lot right behind the USCIS building - the charge is $19 for anything over 2 hours. Super convenient!

 

My questions were:

- State bordering Canada

- Ocean on East coast

- Age for registration to Selective Service

- When was the Constitution written

- How many Senators

- What is freedom of religion

Folks, 

 

I had my interview this morning @ 9.30am at Mt Laurel NJ.

1. I arrived at exactly 8.30am, checked in with my notice and waited patiently.  The LCD TV in the living room kept showing some flash cards of the Civic Test, allowing me to revise a few questions.

 

2. I got called in around 10am (roughly 30 minutes late).  The officer was very nice, went through my application, made some minor changes to some check boxes that were blank.  

 

3. She administered the civic and english test, which I passed.

 

4.  All went well until the question on citations.  Mistakenly, I had noted that I got some traffic fines (all were under $300) but did not include a verification that they were paid.  So, she asked me to go to my county offices where I was ticketed and get verification and come back.  Note - these two places were at the two extreme ends of town, so I ended up using about 1.5hrs driving to both places to get the evidence of payment. Lesson learnt: get receipts (original copies) of all paid fines ready for your interview.

 

5. I got back around 12.00, she called me back in, I submitted the receipts and was approved.

 

6. Since they have same-day oath ceremonies, I waited around until about 3Pm and took the oath of citizenship.

 

Wheeewwww -- over for now .....  onto the next step - sponsorship of my wife.
