Will they ask about admitted marijuana use at my interview?

So I stupidly admitted I had tried marijuana after I was grilled hard on it by a doctor who seemed like she wanted to make me trip up, she forced me to give a date, age and describe how it happened even though all I said "it's possible I tried it at a party when I was young"..I'm a fool, I know.  I was made to take a urine test. I also take prescription NSAIDs which I have heard can give a false positive in these urine tests. I understand that it is an automatic one year ban if the results come back positive regardless of the reason so I am bricking that already.

However, I am wondering if anyone else here has admitted to one time marijuana use and been asked about it at the interview? Should you be honest and confirm that you admitted to the doctor that you had in fact tried it? Or should you answer no? I know ethically what I should do and I don't want to be advised on whether or not I should "lie" but what would you do in this situation?

My interview is in less than a month and I could puke with worry right now.

So my questions are:

Do you get asked about whether or not you have taken any illegal drugs at the embassy interview?

If you are found ineligible and receive the one year ban, can you still travel to the USA to visit?

I was not asked about anything regarding my medical at my interview however you should always tell the truth and be honest about whatever you are asked.  So if they ask you then you should be honest, if it doesn't come up then do not mention it. Lying at any stage in this process would be fraud. I am not 100% about travel regulations however my understanding is that unless your visa is actually denied then you can still travel on your ESTA. However I'm not 100% sure about this one and others might have better knowledge than me on that one.

Thank you for your response, I'm hoping I will still be able to travel and visit.

I think it will depend on how you answer the ESTA questions:

  • Have you ever violated any law related to possessing, using, or distributing illegal drugs?
  • Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa you applied for with your current or previous passport, or have you ever been refused admission to the United States or withdrawn your application for admission at a U.S. port of entry?

Any yes answer will result in denied ESTA.

Thank you. So I wonder, is being denied different from being ineligible?

What was stupid about telling the truth? One-time drug use is, at most, a one-year ban. A material misrep is a lifetime ban.
