Old Passports Required?

This is a bit ahead of schedule, but I've been reading the requirements for the interview and I noticed they often ask for old passports. My fiancee renewed hers  before we applied and I'm pretty sure they don't give you your old one back in her country. Does anyone know if this will be a big problem or is not a big deal?

You cannot give what you don't have.  I can't imagine the need for an old passport unless it contains entry stamps that substantiate the proof of meeting requirement

YMMV

I'm worried that they'll want it considering her country (Tunisia) even though she never even left the country on it.

While it is Tunisia, it is still the US Embassy.  Where did you read these stories?

YMMV

It's a common requirement at the embassy stage.

I don't know about Tunisia specifically but it's listed here on this website on the guides

Well anything on the list is a nothing more than suggested ideas which is quite different than required.  I have been through the embassy stage before and it was NOT a requirement

YMMV

Your simply need to have her passport # from the old passport and if possible the issue date. The embassy will do any checks necessary using the passport number. She can even request the information from the issuing authority if she does not have it written down.

Try this;

The Embassy of Tunisia in Washington, D.C. is the diplomatic mission of the Tunisian Republic to the United States. It is located at 1515 Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Embassy Row neighborhood.

Address: 1515 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, DC 20005
Hours
Closed now
Phone(202) 862-1850

If anybody would know one might think thay do. If that is correct they don't return old passport, ask for  regulation, policy or statue so you can validate you claim.

I hope she still has that knowledge but not sure.

What checks will the embassy do?

YMMV

Typical background checks of the beneficiary

They certainly don't need the old passports or passport numbers to do this....

I don't know about Tunisia but they asked in japan (I'm a Turkish citizen) and they were asking in Turkey for tourist-work visa.

If they don't give it back (some countries just keep them) the embassy would know or she can ask to the embassy what else she can provide.

you can maybe get the information on the number of if she goes to wherever they issue passport in Tunisia (in my case it was an embassy here in japan or a police station in Turkey

PS_it is not usually just for background checks but it is a proof of countries she's been before with the old number and also to check the old passport still in the hands of the owner not in a black market somewhere. That is why they also ask if you ever lost a passport. Because this can mean identity theft and affect the original owners entry as an additional check may be required
