you tip after you eat, so how would you get crappy service if you don't tip??
Obviously.

Ok, I will clarify. After leaving no tip, do not return to the same establishment. If you do, you should expect crappy service.

At best. Stuff in your food that don't belong there at worst...

Eeeep....! :o This is just one more reason to remain completely nice to your server BEFORE the food gets there...LOL aaack!

When I first came here we went shopping at the Commisary ( military grocery store) After watching the grocery bagger person put the groceries in the bags and onto the cart , I saw my husband give him a 5.00 bill. I later asked him why he gave this guy a tip, he was just putting groceries in bags just like people do at any grocery store. I totally understood when he told me that the people hired as baggers at this place were Vetrans that didn't get paid at all and the tips were all they got.

I actually prefer shopping there because they are always friendly, do a great job ( not putting eggs on the bottom of the bag), and even push the cart full of groceries to your car and load it up!

How odd - I just posted yesterday in the Walmart thread about how I love the commissary baggers :D Me and my husband were trying to figure out how much they probably end up making in a shift - probably more than minimum wage! I don't think they're all vets though - some of ours are teenagers. They do have a tip box that says baggers work for tips only though.

For sure. I worked at Bickford's for a while (if you don't know it, it's like a ghetto version of IHOP). There was a regular who came in every day and never tipped (was esp. crochety (sp.?) as well). One of the waiters would hock loogies in his soda whenever he waited on him.

my bad service tip is 2 3 bucks.. my average service is 5 bucks.. and of course 15 or 20% if it was great service..

I tip if a service was performed. I tip my waiters/waitresses (not at fast food joints) pretty well. We tip at least 15% and if they did a great job or if my kids made a mess or something we'll tip a lot more. ( I remember tipping the waiter at Smokey Bones $20 on a $50 bill because my kids took 30 minutes to decide and the guy had to keep coming back) I tip my hairdresser. I tip my mailman at Christmas (when I used to have a regular mailman, now we just have a series of temps).

My second job is working for Mad Science. In addition to after school programs, I do birthday parties, workshops, etc. I get tipped at the birthday parties. The parents pay for the party, and then they tip me. My usual tip for an hour's work is $20. (And I set the record in our office for a tip: $40 from the girl scouts for a workshop :P ) I get paid a flat rate from the office for doing the parties, and most of the time get paid for mileage as well. For example, I get paid $35 to do the party, $30 mileage (if it's over here in Illinois) and then I get a tip from the parents.

My point: it's not about how much or how little you make, it's about the service you perform for the people who are tipping you.

We always tip 15% for marginally acceptable service, $18 for good service, and 20% for anyone who went out of their way. Unfortunately, since moving to Albuquerque, people are so nice that we end up tipping 20% or more every time!

I leave some change at DD (or Starbuck's, whatever) if I've asked for something particularly complicated (e.g. I'm vegetarian and don't like croissants, so I always get the Supreme Omelet Croissant on a bagel and without bacon, so two of those plus one flavored/milk/sugar and one no-flavor/no milk/no sugar coffee, if the whole thing comes out right and it's busy, deserves a small tip--maybe $1 and that's about a $8-10 order) and/or if I go often, I'll leave a tip once a week or every other week.

I dated a guy once who was firmly convinced that you tip $10 for decent service and $15 for acceptable service. I used to insist on paying for every date that involved a meal in a sit-down restaurant. (Wow. Remind me again why I waited two and half years for him to dump me instead of dumping him myself early on?)

In most resturants here the waiter/waitress only make 2.15 or about an hours and must rely on tips to make a living, even for donuts.

Now more importantly where is my donuts?!!?!?

I dont think they are making $2.15. Damm..maybe in a differnt country but in the USA. that is WAY below the Min. wadge that is required by the Federal Goverment.

That is $86/wk hmmm I can now go buy that porche or Ferri with that kind of wage.
