I always tip if we eat at a sit down place 15 percent. If the service is horrible I adjust it down or even zero. I think they get the message then that they did not provide good service. I would not tip the donut place, or McDonalds. I know alot of wait staff makes below minimum wages but I cannot see tipping McDs for just handing me a burger over the counter.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

Fast food workers don't get tipped usually (Dunkin Donuts is fast food).

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

When I first came here we went shopping at the Commisary ( military grocery store) After watching the grocery bagger person put the groceries in the bags and onto the cart , I saw my husband give him a 5.00 bill. I later asked him why he gave this guy a tip, he was just putting groceries in bags just like people do at any grocery store. I totally understood when he told me that the people hired as baggers at this place were Vetrans that didn't get paid at all and the tips were all they got.

I actually prefer shopping there because they are always friendly, do a great job ( not putting eggs on the bottom of the bag), and even push the cart full of groceries to your car and load it up!

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

On tip reporting (now I might be a bit fuzzy on this, but this is my recolection...)

Of course servers were not accurately reporting their tip income. The Feds finally caught on to this and computers caught up (circa about 1991).

The restaurant reports the server's sales. IRS estimates an 8% tip return. Sales X .08 is added onto your server's wage reporting. If you leave zero, you are *costing* your server $$.

I tend to overtip, having been in the industry, but I do disagree with my sister (and go with mother's advice) and I don't tip on the wine (bottled).

$30 bux for a $5 bottle of plonk just doesn't seem right.

As I understand it, alcohol sales are reported separately (in my state anyway).

And yes, many servers have to tip out the rest of the staff. The last casual waiting job I picked up, the servers were required to turn in 15% of their tips *to the manger*, for the kitchen staff (amazingly all undocumented workers from another country). The owner would pay the cooks out of our tips money. Needless to say, I didn't last there long, and I wasn't the first person to report him to State Wage and Hour.

For all the good that did. grrr.

"Better start making better Doughnuts, Tim horton's is coming"

LOL...I have been to Tim Horton's in Toronto...it seemed similar to Dunkin Donuts at that time but now I think the coffee at DD's sucks! It's basically like half and half with water....

not right unless they volunteered to do it...if they are retired vets, perhaps they just like getting out and being around folks... *shrug*
