In most resturants here the waiter/waitress only make 2.15 or about an hours and must rely on tips to make a living, even for donuts.

Now more importantly where is my donuts?!!?!?

12/31/07: Sent I-751 packet to Texas, the LONG wait begins once again!

01/03/08: Packed received.

Okay so I just went to Dunkin Donuts on my break and I got the receipt and there was a line for tip...I think that is soooo overboard...I should get a tip for replying to responses on VJ...screw hearts and all the jazz...

Did you happen to use plastic? The vast majority of restaurant-use credit card reader/printers use that template, even in cases where the restaurant pre-clobbers (example: Double-T Diners).

Someone behind a counter doesn't get a tip from me....not at Dunkin donuts (if I ever went), Subway, or Starbucks (also....if I ever went), etc. No one gets a tip for standing behind a counter and processing my order...

I'll take the chocolate...:D

What ever happened to this mythical "minimum wage" thing?

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: Australia

The 'minimum' wage in the US is set by each state individually because the Federal min. wage has not been increased in decades! When they instituted it, they 'forgot' to make any allowance for inflation or cost-of-living increases so it's just stayed the same and what was a fairly livable sum back then won't even get a cup of coffee now!

I read an article about it in the NY Times magazine a few months ago and it was shocking...

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

- Proposal (20 August 2000) to marriage (19 December 2004) - 4 years, 3 months, 25 days (1,578 days)

STAGE 1 - Applying for K1 (15 September 2003) to K1 Approval (13 July 2004) - 9 months, 29 days (303 days)

STAGE 2A - Arriving in US (4 Nov 2004) to AOS Application (16 April 2005) - 5 months, 13 days (164 days)

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

STAGE 4 - CITIZENSHIP (filing under 5-year rule - residency start date on green card Jan 11th, 2006)

*N400 filed December 15, 2011

*Interview March 12, 2012

*Oath Ceremony March 23, 2012.

ALL DONE!!!!!!!!

Good point--and you'd also better get the order right the first time, coz' correcting it definitely does not make my mindset conducive tip-giving (not trivial: I've actually placed order for Spanish or Garden Omelette then waiter/waitress brings Western to the table)
