Hello,

I'm new to this forum so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong area. I am planning on applying for a work visa so I can move and work in the states with my boyfriend. I have a job lined up and the employer is my sponsor.

I am just looking for any advice and tips on the process of applying and any experience from people currently applying or who have been through this process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went through the process. You don't apply to anything, the process is all the employer - they pay, they hire a lawyer, they submit paperwork.

Having an employer willing to sponsor is just the beginning.

Does employer realize what does sponsoring for a work visa exactly mean ? Guessing not...

You don't apply, employer does. They should start with hiring an immigration lawyer and reserving appropriate amount of money to do so.  You also may want to check requirements for a work visa (education / experience).

Firstly apologies I just noticed based on several replies that I havn't worded this very well. I am aware that it is the employer who applys and pays the fees as is my employer so sorry for any misunderstandings. I was just looking for any tips from peoples own journeys to see if any advice and heads up on the process to help me make sure it goes well. Again sorry for my bad wording

We can give more help if we know which type of work visa you are looking at .  What is it you do ?   So many people want to work / live in the US but the truth is a work visa is a limited path.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

One of the simpler options, you do not a lot other than attending the interview, just follow the Lawyer's instructions.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
