Hi Folks,

I'm just waiting for my NOA 2 (fingers crossed for this month), and I'm wondering once I get to the states, get married and applied for adjustment of status. How long will it take before I get my EAD (employment authorization document)?

So basically, I'm wondering how many months from entering the US can I expect to not be allowed to work, if we marry as soon as I enter?

Thanks in advance for any help from you wonderful people.

EAD/AP are currently taking around 4 months to be processed. Some lucky filers are getting EAD/AP in 75 days, while some unlucky ones are waiting 140+ days. But I would say the average waiting time is currently around 90-120 days.

6-12 months.

Wow, I'm hoping this isn't quite accurate! I would find it very hard not to work for so long.

I think Meanis may have been referring to the overall timeframe for AOS, which is currently close to 6-12+ months.

Luckily EAD processing times are generally in the 90-120 day time frame. We're at day 92 waiting for my husband's EAD and he's starting to go a little crazy from boredom. :P

I have been in the US for about a month now, getting married in about 3 weeks, then going to file for AOS immediately, including EAD/AP. This month alone felt a lot longer that it was suppose to :)

Current processing times looks to be just an average 100days: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/eadstats.php

At least I have my SSN, Bank account, Secured credit card and I was surprised Amex approved me for unsecured credit card today, but only $1000 limit. At least something to get credit rating going before I can actually work. Makes a big difference when you actually have some stuff of your own, feels like you can get stuff done.

Good luck with your journey !

Awesome, congrats on being there! I bet that feels good, even if the never-ending admin is still ongoing!

Ah that's good, I didn't think you'd be allowed those things until you had EAD

Thanks a lot! Good luck with yours too :)

Thanks, only thing I am waiting to apply for after EAD is Driving license. I just drive on my UK one for now (the little that I do drive).

I go over to the states most months and my UK license has been fine, I think you have six months or so to change that.

Please be careful about driving on your UK license. You are no longer a visitor so you cannot use the license after (what ever state your in) requires you to change it. Can be 30 days or even 10 days.

Here is what i was relating to- A friend took her K1 journey and was approved- once she got to the united states it took her almost an year to have a work permit...

Between 1-3 months she had to get married,

after that she could ask for work permit which took loooong time.

So thats why i think it takes minimum 6months from the time a person arrive to the US.

But still, i would rather have k1 and be a few months bored with my love, than separated while cr1 processing for truly year. :D

we filed for AOS in August of this year and just got the GC this week. so about 4 months for my wife. We filed for EAD and AP with the I-485

That's good to know, four months isn't too bad, I just feel bad that my wife will have to work while I can't. But I guess that's the lesser problem compared to being apart. Cheers for the info, mate!
