Paying with a personal Check

Hello all,

So we’re almost ready to send off our full package. My spouse and I currently do not have joint personal checks with both our names on one. Just haven’t had the chance to purchase those yet. Does it matter if we write the $680.00 out in my name or my spouses name?

Which is “better” to use (or does it even matter) the GC holder’s check or the USC’s check?

Doesn't matter. The check is already deposited before the person evaluating sees your file.

Check is processed electronically and destroyed before it reaches (15 months later) the officer reviewing your case.

Thanks all!  That is terrible. Thankfully(?), we’re submitting to the VSC which averages, I suppose 10-11 months, not sure if that’s any consolation to us haha.

We waiting in the dreaded TSC for many months for the K-1. At least we’re together during this, so it’s not all that bad.

When we filed, a year ago tomorrow, CSC was way way faster than VSC on I751s and most everyone filing in Vermont were complaining of their bad luck.  Obviously things changed between then and now, so who knows what it will be like in six months.

Good Luck!

I also worried about the check issue, but came to the same conclusion...different people processing the payment vs adjudicating the application.

Wow!  It looks like our case missed the boat, but hopefully VSC stays on track for CharlieTanger!  I suppose CSC's change is not bad news for us at CSC.  It's almost a useless step for those filing for citizenship.  Too bad the ROC filers that won't be filing for USC couldn't get processed faster!

I am always curious why this is taking so long. Do they only look at the documents submitted, or do they also do some additional research/investigation?

It mostly just sits in a box for that time.  Only right at the end do they take it out and evaluate it and run whatever checks.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.
