Gifts to Reduce the Public Debt

This is the best response in this entire thread.  If these millionaires and billionaires are really concerned with the national debt there is something they can do about it.  Instead we get a self-righteous letter with some intellectual superiority preaching to us how their taxes should not be reduced and add to the national debt which is code for saying keep everyone's taxes high.

To the millionaires and billionaires that signed this letter, put up or shut up!

Hmm, good point.  So a grand total of  about 0.004% of them don't like tax cuts?

They definitely aren't doing it for political reasons.

If tension creating posts are going to be removed, we should start by removing posts from the person who started the personal insults, thereby creating the tense thread.  Then remove all the posts piling on.  Otherwise, all that has been done now is the removal of a person's ability to defend myself from those personal attacks.

Either remove all the tense posts or don't remove any.  We should be asking for fairness with the moderation.  You can clearly see the original personal attack in post #7 of this thread - "If a simple search to verify something is beyond your capabilities, it's probably not worth responding to you."  The thread degenerated from that point.  If that isn't a personal attack, I don't know what would be considered one.  The clearly generalized post laughing at liberals for now pretending to care about the national debt isn't justification for a person insult.

Also, why aren't all the insulting posts attempting to belittle and question NBF's intelligence being removed?  That seems to be a constant theme for several people on the left.

Kinda like when the ref calls a personal foul on the football player who responds to being hit.

I appreciate you defending me, but I could not care less. We for the most part have fun here. I have friends on the extreme of both sides. I think  sometimes huge egos and massive massive insecurities get in the way. I have seen them cone and go over the years.

I have also seen some people I liked very much,  in both ditches get perms banned for leading mini mod revolts. Be careful.

You are assuming that NBF thinks there will be additional debt added during the Trump years - he definitely didn't say that.  It is very possible that there won't be any additional debt added during the next 7 years.  So, without your assumptions, what NBF said is absolutely true and accurate - 1.5 billion added is much better than 9 billion added.

I'd still say it's pretty asinine to think that we aren't going to add ANY other debt in the next 3 (or 7) years.

Who will be paying for the wall?

Oh right...Mexico...

I'd say it is a reasonable opinion.  Unless, you are going to tell me that there has never been an administration that has cut the national debt.  Has the national debt never gone down at any point in history?

Mexico will be paying for the wall, maybe not by directly by making a payment, but they will be paying for it.  When Trump starts cutting the parts of the federal government that shouldn't exist, spending will begin to come down even further.

Cool story bro.

We can check back in together around November 2020. This is like the Israel/Palestine issue. I'll be perfectly happy if you are right, because I also think we need to balance our budget better (Though not at the expense of losing core responsibilities of government, which I'm sure we disagree about). I just don't see it happening and think it's foolish to think that way. Time will tell.

Do you think it is foolish to think that way based on a historical perspective that our national debt has never gone down?

I'm trying to understand why you think it is impossible to not add additional amounts to the national debt.

I don't think it's foolish to believe that our national debt has never gone down and can never go down again in the future. I'm not saying it's impossible. Something can be possible but still foolish. It is possible to survive jumping out of a plane without a parachute. It would still be foolish to do so.

I think it is foolish to believe that in the next 3 years it will (Or 7). I'm not talking about historical examples, I'm talking about right now. I don't see Trump accomplishing enough to do that. Especially when you consider the promises he claims he will be keeping (the wall as a major example of massive spending).

Yes he could do it but it would require not seeing major campaign promises through, and it would require a lot more legislative work to be done. Republicans have an even slimmer majority in the Senate now, and the past year has shown that the Republican party doesn't have the "party unity" required to move things along quickly.
