Extension Letter Expiration

So I know all of us who filed in April are mostly still waiting for an acceptance letter and due to the backlog in applications being processed - I'm worried that by the time they approve my husbands application, the Conditional Residence Extension letter will have expired (one year date from extension letter originally mailed)  I was curious, if it comes to the point say March that the acceptance letter is no where close to being accepted.  Can I call and requested another extension letter?  How does this work if it comes down to it?  What happens if the extension letter runs out (will he be able to continue working, will he be considered illegal?) - kinda worrisome the amount of time its taking :<

Did you make an infopass appointment and get the I-551 stamp?

First, the extension letter extends the validity of the green card by 1 year. So if the card expired on 1/1/2017 and the letter arrived on 12/1/2018, the card would still have a new expiration of 1/1/2018.

Second, the card is only proof of your LPR status. LPR status does not get revoked just because the card expires....but you can't use the expired card for most purposes.

Third, you can make an Infopass appointment to get an I-551 stamp to act as a green card for 1 year.
