Hmmm.

So I'm having a couple of issues with the G-325A. Basically my fiance and i are both in our 20s, so we've moved around quite a bit and worked for many places in the last 5 years... so here is my question. I was in 3.5 years of college, so i have 4 different college addresses because of that. But the entire time my permanent address was with my parents at home. Do I have to dig up the college addresses?? I dont know if i even know what they are! If I put those I will have a total of 7 addresses for that form. Oh boy.

Next question is about jobs and it's very similar. If you worked with temp agencies that placed you around, did you list them? I have had about 4 permanent jobs in five years (mostly summer or part time during school and then fulltime ones after college) but i've been with about 3 different temp agencies as well!

Tracking down all these addresses is going to be super difficult.

Any advice?

It's normal for college students to live in a number of houses/apts over a short amount of time. I don't think that matters.

Whoo, I had a number - had to add a separate sheet of paper.

I wrote down every single address and any part time job I had too.

See if you can dig them up - don't worry if there are a lot - that's normal for college students.

Yeah my first guess is just to list everything i possibly can even if the college addresses arent really permanent. i might call the school and see if they keep records of that stuff, because im not sure that i'd have mail from every dorm i lived in. i guess i could always list the hall name without the box number if i had to.

Form doesn't ask for permanent addresses, it asks for your addresses over the last 5 years. I had the student thing going on too, so I ended up attaching extra sheets. When the instructions are clear and simple, like they are here, follow them. If no qualifying language is used (like "permanent" or "residences for longer than x months"), then just give 'em what they want!

A few extra minutes making the addendum sheet will save you a lot of worry and potentially a lot of time later if your lack of a complete G-325A gets you an RFE.

Don't get hung up by the small stuff. If you were at various addresses at college in one city then your address was XXXX city for XX years or months. You don't need the exact address you were at for each semester or partial semester.

Likewise, if you were employed by XXXX temp agency for XX number of years or months, then list that agency and the amount of time you were with them... not the jobs you took while temping for that agency.

Personally, when it got down to listing part-time positions, I entered "Various PT positions for various employers from xxxx until xxxx" or something to that effect. It's really not that big of a deal. Honestly.

I think this is a case where your education hurts you! They try to write these forms at a suuuuper basic level. But I think they kind of underestimate the general public's ability to read. If you gave that instruction to a 5th grader, they'd do what it said. But since you've gone to school, you read it and (rightly) start trying to analyze it for additional information. That's something that serves people well in almost all areas of life EXCEPT government forms I think. Ironic, no?

(We consulted with, but didn't hire, a lawyer. Her sole bit of advice was "don't read that stuff like you're a lawyer!" Read it like a robot!)

I did list out all the damn moves. Fortunately, some of the more rapid fire moves are now more than 4 years back. And fortunately, our college had a central mailhouse - instead of individual dorm addresses, but it was what I'd have written for someone to get something to my residence, so that's what I would have listed. For my more recent education, I lived during the summer where I lived during the school year for part of the time, and at my permanent (parents') home for some time as well. Even if it seemed repetitive, I listed it all out.

It's totally annoying, I know . . . .

TimsDaisy,

I like this approach better (anything to avoid having to create attachments to a useless 4-part form).

Just do the best you can and give as much information as possible. I had a similar concern, as my fiance lived in several places in Nigeria. Some of them were in very small villages, and THERE WEREN'T STREET ADDRESSES. They just didn't have them. So I talked to an immigration attorney and he said to just list the name and location of the village.

So......If you can't remember the box number or apartment number, at least put the dorm hall name or address of the apartment building. I personally am really ####### about giving as much info as possible because I don't want an RFE or any other delays.

freecake,

Between residence yes, no gaps. Even 'street people' reside somewhere.

But as for employment, G-325A is not job application. USCIS does not care about gaps in employment as a potential employer might. A gap in periods of employment is quite common.

You know how people keep saying not to let gaps of time in between jobs or residences? so when you were a student did you list the dorm address, then list home address for the summer, then new dorm address, then home address for the summer again, like keep relisting where you were back to live each summer?

We were told to list "none" for the periods where there was no employment - we were advised (from an immi-lawyer) that all gaps left unexplained were potential problems, even if not likely problems, so why have them and then set yourself up for worry or worse?

I had an addendum sheet and yeah it was a pain in the #######, but . . . well, we'll see if it poses a problem.

Do the best you can and then hope for the best after that.

But I'd say gaps on either residence or employment are to be avoided when practical.
