Important Tips About Birth Certificate Translation

First you get a computerized birth certificate in Arabic from the Civil Register and take the Arabic birth certificate and go to the Ministry of Health and Population (Located on Magles Al Shaab St.Kasr Alaini. Phone: 202-355-7046 or 202-354-1507 or 202-354-0596. Fax: 202-355-3966 or 202-355-9422. Website: http://www.misrnet.idsc.gov.eg).

When you arrive there as walk into the ministry's garden, there's this green gate you walk to through two white buildings until you reach the gate and on the right side to it you enter a building where the translation section of Ministry of Health and Population is on the 2nd / second. The office room is on the left side being the third room before you end a line of office rooms. In there, you speak to any of the workers about wanting to translate your birthday certification paper. They will hand you a paper that you have to take to a place called "El Tobgy Translation Office" which is located on 36 Khayrat St., Lazoughly square. The translation fees were 6 L.E. is what I paid to get my birth certificate translated into English. Neither did it take that long to get it done. (Take your passport with you just for them to check on how to spell your name in English based on how it's spelled in English in your passport).

The translator's name was Mr. Samir who had a great sense of humor and was also a gentle man. He seemed quite knowledgeable to give you directions where to go if for example you need to translate a Police Certificate then that would have to be translated from The Ministry of Justice on the 13th floor. (Address: Magles El Saeb St. Wezaret Al Adl-Cairo. Tel.: 202-792-2263/5/7/9. Fax: 202-795-8103. E-mail: mojeb@idsc.gov.eg).

After you're done with the translation, you take the English birth certificate and stop by any small stationery where they should have a xerox copy machine and xerox copy both Arabic and English (the translated) certificates. Also, a copy of your national personal ID is a must as required by the Minister of Healthy and Population. You will also need to buy one of each 90 Piasters and 10 Piasters stamp (they usually go like "buy a 1 L.E. stamp from the post office).

There are those tea sellers at the Minister of Health and Population who do sell them as well and you can tip them with like an extra 50 Piasters or so. Just do NOT follow anyone there who may offer to help you with the translation issue or tell you they know a place or whatsoever BECAUSE it has to be done from the place mentioned above which is related to the Minister of Health and Population.

I had a guy came on my way asking if I wanted any help to get my birth certificate translated or even want to buy stamps! As I smelled scam coming from him, I just said "no thanks (la' shukran) and walked a way continuing my trip to the translation office I was advised to go to. After your visit to the translation place and having xerox copies of both Arabic and English certificate. Also your national personal ID, you have to go back to where you started from which is the office on the second floor and there they will look at the translated page, sign it, notarize it, stamp it with the eagle stamp then give it back to you after they take the xerox copies you made of the Arabic and English birth certificate and also the copy of your national personal ID then they will ask you to go to the National Information Center for Health and Population building where you have to give a quick visit to Mr. Mohammed Maghraby who puts the final signature on your English birth certificate paper. (the building is on your way out to the right).

To end with this, you will still have to take the English birth certificate and head to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to notarize it there. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is located on Gamet El Dowal St. A taxi ride from Tahrir square shouldn't be more than 5 L.E. for the 10-15 minutes ride. It might take longer depends on how busy the traffic is.

Make sure you get things done early enough.

No, they only translate birth, death and vaccination certificate cause it's related to health and population system. Not sure where you can translate marriage certificate though. I still need to get my police certificate translated tomorrow, so I will ask there for you about the marriage certificate translation thing and get back to you on this one.

Oh no need to ask...he already did that part. I was just curious why the fees were so different than what he stated. His was over $100 EG pounds for the marriage cert. translation. Thanks for this info!

No, they only translate birth, death and vaccination certificate cause it's related to health and population system. Not sure where you can translate marriage certificate though. I still need to get my police certificate recorded tomorrow, so I will ask there for you and get back to you on this one.

I'll ask him again. I don't think it was just for the translation but to pick the certificate up, have it stamped here, then go there, then have it translated, then have it restamped, etc. I know it added up to more than like 20 EG pounds for sure. That's why his eyes popped out of his head when I told him he had to get all the other documents (birth cert., police records, etc.) translated too!

Poor guy. Poor me as well. We have to go through all these ####### but it's all worth it if you wish to be with the one you love. Anyway, stamps are not that expensive for them to charge him that much.

Forgive me if this sounds betchy but the wives/husbands of beneficiaries don't have to deal with birth certificate translation. The beneficiaries take care of it. It'd be like giving my husband info on how I would go about getting my driver's license renewed or something. I already know how to do it, he isn't involved, why should he have to know. These topics are so annoying. I think we should stick to things that we as petitioners need to know. Beneficiaries (for the most part) know what they need to do on their side. My husband never once asked me how to get things translated or where he needed to go for physicals or whatever during this process. He got the packet 3 or whatever, it had the info he needed. Why did I have to get involved? This kind of info is only useful for nosey wives. It's not actually helpful.
