Quitting my soul-crushing job and need advice on how

However I quit, I'm pretty sure it's going to be verbal. They don't need a letter because I don't have an HR file and this isn't going on my resume.

eta: it's more of a "I tried it, I didn't like it" situation, not a true resignation situation.

If it's going to be verbal, I'd still stick with a professional sounding but brief explanation...

Regretfully, I'm giving you my notice of resignation. Some unforeseeable circumstances have come up and I cannot continue working here. Thank you for giving me this opportunity - it has been a great experience and I'm going to miss this wonderful group of people.

Steven, that is absolutely perfect. Exactly what I want to say.

Most companies have no compunction at all about letting their employees go without good reason. The only loyalty you need to have in the modern work world is to yourself. If they take it personally that is their problem. Life is too short to work in a job you describe as "soul crushing"

I agree. They'd have no trouble cutting the OP loose if circumstances dictated it. After all, it's just business.

OP, grow a pair and stop caring about what they think or what's going to happen to THEM. They sound like pr!cks who don't deserve your concern. Just give your notice and be done with it.:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: You can do this!

Both these posts served as awesome pep talks. I DO need to grow a pair. The minute I hear from the temp agency guy on whether I can quit before he talks to them, I'll talk to my boss.

Alex- I think all this worrying you are doing about how to do this just shows how good of a heart you have. But remember this job is not going on your resume, its a "soul crushing" job, so take care of yourself. Be professional, be brief and get the heck out of there! (F)

Alex..............

You're not dating them. :content:

 Ok, ok,you're right.... I find this EXTREMELY nervewracking and Rey has been taking me on 2-hour walks to lift my mood and even that has not been enough.... freaking out over here!

I get the same way in these situations, I know how you feel!! Every time I have had to leave a job, it's has been nerve wracking for me to tell them. Even in situations where I had to leave because of college. And people do have a tendency to get too personal at work, something I have never liked doing. I like having a very separate work life and outside life. But sometimes people there take quitting personally, "Aww I wish you'd stay! Why are you leaving??", "Why are you leaving us!!??" It can be very annoying, but then it'll be over with! Think of the day you won't be there anymore, and just get through the last few days or however long you'd be there. You got lots of good advice on this thread. But I wanted to let you know that I know how you feel about it. I am also not the kind of person who can just say "I quit!" and walk out the door unless it was an extremely bad situation. And I have also said things were good and fine when asked by co-workers, all the time thinking "I hate this freaking place!!". And then I'd quit a little while later.

Best wishes to you. :) It'll be in the past shortly!

Alex,

I think while you're at the temp agency, you're actually an employee of the TA and not the current assignment.

Check it out...you could, theoretically if true...just call your agency and say 'this isn't blowin my skirt up' <---not really but you know what I mean.

Companies don't give 2 $#!^$ about their employees, especially ones paid through temp services, and you shouldn't either!

You've been there less than three months and you're stressing this job??? Come on!

People work to get money. If you can get money another way, don't waste your time worrying about that place. Are they even going to remember you after you left?

Good luck Alex...I do know how you feel. Kinda hashing around the same thing in my mind atm. Only thing is...I have 12 years in...*sigh* I do believe though, it will feel exhilarating to "just do it" (as the Nike commercial states).

Hm, per Lisa's idea, I was able to contact the temp guy and he's going to call my boss in the morning. If she asks why, it's because Rey wants to move somewhere else when his contract is up and I feel like being an immigrant is hard enough so I should be supportive of that, and that it would be dishonest to stick around knowing I'm going to leave. Done.
