A little more info. They are paying me through a temp agency's payroll company for the first three months (their probationary period) so I don't think I have to give 2 weeks, and since they're still training me and I'm barely a productive member of the team yet (and I am #8 of a formerly 7-person team) the sooner I leave the LESS work for them, rather than MORE as is usually the reason for giving 2 weeks (giving them a chance to fill the hole you leave).

The other thing, they are REALLY personal there (note the fact that I got in trouble for not socializing enough during worktime). I'm afraid being terse would be a form of burning them.

I still don't think you should say anymore. Plus, doesn't the agency paying you speak for you at the company? That's normally how it works around here. Notify the agency you need to give 2 weeks then see what they say is the next step. Anyway, burning them or not, you haven't worked there long enough to put this on your resume right? So don't worry, this is one of those things that you can pretend never happened.

OMG, I could call that temp place and tell them and see if THEY are going to notify the company. The thing was, it was a direct-hire situation, but there is a small chance they might handle it... hmmm I'll call them tomorrow. I'm planning to quit Monday so getting them to sign my timesheet Friday isn't awkward...

Keep the letter short and professional. You can always be a little more "friendly" when you turn it in. You can put the date of 2 weeks notice, but tell them that your circumstances would perfer you leave earlier, but you didn't want to leave them in a lurch. They can accept the 2 week notice or let you go earlier f they want.

However I quit, I'm pretty sure it's going to be verbal. They don't need a letter because I don't have an HR file and this isn't going on my resume.

eta: it's more of a "I tried it, I didn't like it" situation, not a true resignation situation.

It's good you realized you hated it there so quickly and decided to dump the position...plus another door opened for you also.. all good things...

Since it's temp-for-hire thing, you could go through the agency and be done with it. I'd still always recommend having a short resignation letter - even if they don't want it.

Plus be prepared and almost expecting them to let you go the day you do this, they don't have to honor the two-week notice. I've often let people go the day they turn in their notice - not out of spite, but just as a practical business matter (not always, of course). :)

One door closes...another opens..

You don't need to explain anything - it's none of your employers business why you are quitting. A resignation letter with a 2 weeks notice is enough.

If it's going to be verbal, I'd still stick with a professional sounding but brief explanation...

Regretfully, I'm giving you my notice of resignation. Some unforeseeable circumstances have come up and I cannot continue working here. Thank you for giving me this opportunity - it has been a great experience and I'm going to miss this wonderful group of people.

Most companies have no compunction at all about letting their employees go without good reason. The only loyalty you need to have in the modern work world is to yourself. If they take it personally that is their problem. Life is too short to work in a job you describe as "soul crushing"

I agree. They'd have no trouble cutting the OP loose if circumstances dictated it. After all, it's just business.

OP, grow a pair and stop caring about what they think or what's going to happen to THEM. They sound like pr!cks who don't deserve your concern. Just give your notice and be done with it.:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: You can do this!
