"Iraq declared its war against the Islamic State was over after more than three years of combat operations drove extremist fighters from all of the territories they once held.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced Iraqi forces were in full control of the country’s border with Syria during remarks at a conference in Baghdad, and his spokesman said the development marked the end of the military fight against ISIS.

A senior military commander confirmed to The Associated Press that combat operations had been completed.

"All Iraqi lands are liberated from terrorist Daesh (acronym of the group’s full Arabic name) gangs and our forces completely control the international Iraqi-Syrian border," Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Rasheed Yar Allah said in a statement released shortly after al-Abadi's remarks."

What changed?  Why was ISIS able to overrun Iraq and Syria and control large portions of those countries for years?  Why was ISIS able to be utterly decimated in the last 12 months?  Anyone want to answer those questions?

Actually ISIS have been in retreat for a lot longer than twelve months. Sorry to burst your bubble mate.

You are completely wrong.  I also didn't say they have been retreating for the last 12 months.  Read.  I said they have been decimated during the last 12 months.

I'm sorry, it must certainly have been dear leaders visionary war tactics. Some people say he is smarter than all the generals combined. Today he delivers peace in Iraq, tomorrow the world.

However, again you are showing your misunderstanding of how this happened. You need to give credit for the destruction of ISIS to Secretary of Defense Mattis. Trump simply empowered him to start fighting a war to win it.

Here is the part that matters

 

BAGHDAD –  Hundreds of ISIS fighters had just been chased out of a northern Syrian city and were fleeing through the desert in long convoys, presenting an easy target to U.S. A-10 "warthogs."

But the orders to bomb the black-clad jihadists never came, and the terrorists melted into their caliphate -- living to fight another day. The events came in August 2016, even as then-Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was vowing on the campaign trail to let generals in his administration crush the organization that, under President Obama, had grown from the “jayvee team” to the world’s most feared terrorist organization.

You have to wonder, why those orders to bomb them never came.  I also wonder how many innocent lives were lost because those orders never came.  Shameful!
