Hi,

the AOS instructions require us to put N/A or none in all empty fields. However, this is technically not possible as the form does not allow to write such values in many of those fields:

Answer all questions fully and accurately. If a question does not apply to you (for example, if you have never been
married and the question asks “Provide the name of your current spouse”), type or print “N/A,” unless otherwise
directed. If your answer to a question which requires a numeric response is zero or none (for example, “How many
children do you have” or “How many times have you departed the United States”), type or print “None,” unless
otherwise directed

There is a 2D barcode, so supplementing with handwriting seems to be no option. Please advice what to do here?

Print out the document and write N/A or None where applicable in black ink.

The barcode doesn't prevent you from doing this.

Yes, but the information in USCIS computer will be different than on the paper affidavit. I think this can bring large confusion as they will use the bar code version in their system (this is what they say in their instruction to the form) - so is it beneficial to add those N/A with ink or rather a potential confusion?

By writing in the answers in ink, it shows that you filled out the entire form instead of the person reviewing your application thinking you skipped over certain questions/didn't answer certain questions, and risk having the person send your application package back to you marked as "incomplete"....

The instructions specifically say "type or print"...printing N/A or None is not going to cause confusion, whereas leaving it blank altogether just might (as the reviewer might think you just skipped over that part).

So it's up to you what you want to do. :)

I’m confused, why can’t you type those in while filling it out online?

Sometimes the way the form is set up, it doesn't allow certain values to be typed into certain fields.

You mean symbols and stuff like /%@#? Just write the word out. If you can’t write N/A just write NA.

Sorry, I am an Engineer and very particular. If the instruction says I must write N/A then I do not willingly violate the instructions by writing NA.

I know many have different approach to details but a German Engineer will be more particular :)

Yes, a lot of them will only allow you to write something if you actually checked the box, which of course, can`t be done for all.

Also many do not allow N/A due to the "/" I am afraid the person who has designed the new form has not read the instructions to it :)

Leave the box empty and don’t write the / just NA.

You can also just write it out as not applicable

I had the same problem, with most all forms from USCIS.  I filled out what I could on the PDF form, and what was not allowed for  data entry, I printed out the whole form, completed those areas in black ink, and signed it.  I then just scanned in all the stuff and emailed it to my fiancée who then printed it out on her end for her interview.  Plus any supporting info, like bank records, last tax records,  insurance info, and everything else that needed to be sent for back up of information listed.
