Church wedding in Philippines

Hey Everyone,

Figured I would make a new topic for this. Has anyone who got their civil ceremony done in the US had another church ceremony in Philippines?

Seeming really hard to go through some of the steps abroad such as pre cana and interview and trying to figure out if churches will let us do this locally and take the certificates to them. Also, wondering if we report our marriage to the consulate here, can we get another certificate there to get married or will a church not let us do a ceremony due to being married in the US?

This is sort of a depends thing.  Depends on the church.  Catholic church .. not happening.   Other churches - check with the minister.  My wife's minister had no issues with a RENEWAL of vows ceremony.

You DO NOT complete any marriage documents in the Philippines .. it is only a renewal of vows "show" .

Hmm well #######. We wanyed a Catholic church wedding for her parents as they weren't at our civil ceremony here.

Would you say a Catholic church would let us renew the vows? Was worried that if we file our marriage here then we could not get a license there for the ninogongs and ninagang to sign... and even if we didn't file it, I wouldn't be able to get a legal capacity certificate. No way around this without causing a mess?

You ABSOLUTELY do NOT apply for a marriage license in the Philippines... YOU ARE ALREADY MARRIED.    Don't start throwing rocks in the gears.    You complete ROM if you want your marriage to be recorded in the Philippines.

I said the catholic church WON'T do it...  lots of posts on this topic over the years.

Hank, when did you do this and where?

Haven't spoken directly to the church yet but just some google looks like everything will be fine.  Step 2, showing marriage contract if already civilly married. Just wondering how the ninongs and ninangs will be handled, if they will still be required for signing things.

Looks like you found a "rare" catholic church.  Most report back that the priest refused to do a ceremony.   Do keep us posted on this.   Thanks

When it comes to churches you need to make sure to get the information directly from the church as they all have their own rules. They will tell you what you need to do and if they will do it. I know there are usually a LOT of hoops that you need to jump through with any catholic church wedding.

Was anyone else in shock at this church's prices to have AC during your wedding???

Yea after talking to a few more people and two wedding coordinators there, not really as worried about finding a church anymore. Maybe something newer or changed in the last few years. Even had one tell us, oh thats easy and most foreigners are doing a civil now now to avoid all the hoops to get the marriage license there so maybe thats why the change with the churches. However, final meeting/confirmation before we put a deposit is this Thursday(There are 4 churches we like and waiting on availability for the last one before we decide.)

Was surprised at how vast the difference in prices go, from 8,5 up to 50k and year up to 35k in additional for Air con but the 50k church is gorgeous for sure.

You need to make sure that they are not wanting you to convert either. I have looked into a church wedding in Mindanao and they wanted me to convert to Catholicism. Where are you looking to get married, what province?

Also don't underestimate the understanding of the churches that they can benefit financially from this as to their change in policy ;)
