Birth certificate for Joint sponsor I-864

is it okay to send a photocopy of my joint sponsor's birth certificate with his I-864 (it is not the original birth certificate, but a copy from the department of vital information)? on the top it says it is illegal to duplicate this copy by photostat or photograph. But he doesn't have the original...
We don't want to send his copy he got from the courthouse because it is his only official one.

you can send copy 

at some point they may (and for Morocco they usually do)   ask for an original

besides it is best to get another original / not hard to do / i got 2 for my sons / i keep one and give other to them

you can apply online at the county or state website / don't go to any of the other sites that offer a service at they are costly

i can't imagine anyone just having one birth certificate

i keep one at home and give 1 to my son who is my executor of my will

i also have an original in safe deposit box

like other said get a few / doesn't hurt

you will find out that when you apply for certain things, you have to send an  original in (like passport and SS benefits)

although they get returned,  why take chance of mail loosing the only one you have

BTW  have you wondered what people do when a diseaster takes all the belongings and these need to be replaced ?    Get another original and keep it some place separate from the 1st one  (California wild fires come to mind)
