Has anyone asked the question why the people of Alabama are actually still supporting Roy Moore?  I heard an interesting theory today pertaining to abortion.  I really didn't research this myself, but the theorist opined that Alabamans are big pro-lifers and that the DNC candidate is super pro-choice up to and including late-term abortions.  Again, I did not verify this, but it seems plausible.  I know I was never a Roy Moore fan even before all the allegations came out, but fortunately in this case I don't have to choose.  Another theory is that the 2016 election taught folks how to hold their noses while in the voting booth.

I think everyone still supporting Roy Moore is doing so because they are putting some other political opinion ahead of their views on his sexual abuse/assault allegations. Trump, Republicans in Congress, many Alabamans. Many haven't even tried to hide it. Their defense of him is just that his opponent would be bad for certain political agendas, therefore Roy Moore is good.

 

Well I guess there are probably some in Alabama who really don't think he did anything wrong, even if they believe that he did what has been claimed.

right, it's about the reaction of the party members to the offender. sexual misconduct is not carried out as a whole by a political party, so the blame for the sexual misconduct doesn't get blanketed to the political party. but if the political party continues to support and vote for a person who commits sexual misconduct - then you get to shame the party. why do you think all these dems were calling for franken to resign? so they could continue to call out republicans who simply aren't interested in those in their party who are accused of sexual misconduct.

i think a lot of this misconduct would go away if the playing field were more even:

Yes but the party that supported him and turned their backs on his conduct are . That is why it is still relevant.

 

Much like slave owners have been dead for 100's of years but slavery is still an issue, because the Govt that allowed it is still here. Reparations and all

The party can change. It's been 20 years.

 

They called for Franken and Conyers to resign, and they both have. Those are our most recent examples, and therefore they are the most relevant. We don't know what would happen if the Clinton allegations and investigation occurred in 2017. I'd like to think we've progressed at least somewhat and he would have had a lot less support from his party. 

 

I for one see how other Democrats excused him as a stain on their reputation. However that doesn't mean they can't improve over time. It's important to look at recent examples.

Maybe they could do Putin some good in his 'reigning' his country, they are so loyal to him already.

Actually, initially the DNC was all for the due process of Franken and Conyers in the respective ethics committees.  It seems as if their strategy has changed which appears to be pretty transparent.  I still wonder if Franken will actually resign if Moore gets elected.

Personally I am all for sending Moore to Russia as long as he stays in the European portion.
