I want an F1 visa but I have a boyfriend

Hello guys! I went on exchange last year on a J1 Visa and of course my silly self fell in love and got a boyfriend. Thing is, I really want to attend the local community college in 2018, but I've heard being young and having a boyfriend would be a problem to get the student visa.

I am from Brazil (a high fraud country), I am young, I don't have kids or property in my name and my job would never hold my position with me being away for the four year program I plan on attending. I know my case doesn't look good but I really don't plan on getting married or staying illegally. What can I do to higher my chances?

I don't see how being young and having a boyfriend would lower your chances of getting a student visa. Almost everyone on a student visa is young... comes with the territory. The fact that you have a boyfriend is likely not going to come up at the interview. You will be asked whether you have family living in the US... a boyfriend is not family. You will be asked why you want to study in the US. Say the truth and explain what you like about being able to go to school in the US and why you chose this community college. You don't have to mention your boyfriend UNLESS you get directly asked about it, then ALWAYS say the truth.

So those two points won't affect your approval, all others might but then again, most people who come on a student visa don't have a property, children or a job at home that will wait for them either. These points would be important if you were to apply for a visitor visa but not a student visa.

What would significantly higher your chances of approval would be if you were to sign up at a school in Brazil, that partners with an American school. So you start studying in Brazil but can get transferred for a semester or two to a school in the US. I even had a friend who ended up just completing her entire degree in the US instead of Mexico city where she was originally enrolled. Downside is that chances are low that you will be able to transfer to a college close to your boyfriend...

Getting an F1 for community college is already difficult because community college is not a place you would go for an academic interest (they are not good). Although it would be understandable from people from some countries to need to go to community college in the US (e.g. some African countries), community college is not better than universities in Brazil and they are much more expensive than universities in Brazil. So that is already a negative for your visa.

As said above, money is another important issue. You have to demonstrate that you have money (like in a bank account) to pay tuition and living expenses.

Then, you need to have a good reason for wanted to go to community college.

Also, there are very few 4 year community colleges.

Why do you want to go to Community College in the US?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Only thing you can do is try as well as be honest. I was in the US for 2 years on a J1 as an Au Pair and right at the start of my 2nd year I met my now husband. After my J1 year I applied and got an F1 visa to study at a Community College for a year. I was honest with them and told them I had a boyfriend I would live with. They asked if I was planning on getting married and I said I wasn't planning anything. We ended up doing the K1 the year after my F1.

All you can do is try. I admit, it might have been easier for me because I am from a non high fraud country. but all you can do is try and be honest with the person interviewing you. Can you prove that you can afford four years at the community college? Is there a program in Brazil you can study in the US through? That is what I did. I found an agency that were helping Au Pairs, students etc to come to the US. Is there something similar in Brazil you could try?
