Thank you. I'm worrying about the "joint finances" as we are newly weds and residences in our own countries. We met through working and travel so have travelled with work a lot plus holidays and visiting each other.

You are not going to be required to show joint finances at this stage.

I-130 normally requires something.

Ours never did.  We have filed twice now.  I've never added pictures or affidavits.

How did you get a joint bank account if you were citizens in each others countries? Thank you

I had the account first - and didn't need to have a SSN to open it and I added him to my bank account. I am the beneficiary and he is the petitioner. The address the bank has are the local ones, mine in Germany and his in the US. There was no issue whatsoever.

You sent the marriage certificate and that's it?

I will summarize my very first I130 and I129F:

Pay attention to the I130 packages because K3 for married couples is obsolete.

I129F:

Petition

I130 filing receipt

G325A (mine)

Passport copy and BC copy (mine)

Divorce decree copy (mine)

G325A (hers)

Passport copy (hers)

BC copy and translation (hers)

Marriage book copy (which is the legal document we got when we got married)

Translation of the marriage book copy (from a random local translator we paid)

I134F (because it was a K3 petition)

Photos - passport size

I130:

Petition

G325A (mine)

Passport copy and BC copy (mine)

G325A (hers)

Passport copy (hers)

Marriage book copy (which is the legal document we got when we got married)

Translation of the marriage book copy (from a random local translator we paid)

Photos - passport size

Check for payment

Second I130 (DCF, after being married 4 years)

Petition

G325A (mine)

Passport copy and BC copy (mine)

Divorce decree (mine)

G325A (hers)

Passport copy (hers)

Marriage book copy (which is the legal document we got when we got married)

Translation of the marriage book copy (from a random local translator we paid)

CRBA (our daughter)

Passport copy (our daughter)

Photos - passport size

Check for payment

They returned our daughter's BC/passport copy at the counter and ended up taking only the documents that were asked for in the instructions LOL, which was a package that looked a LOT like my original petition.

That's it.  No RFE's, no delays, approved within 6 months (both) on the first filing and approved on the spot on the second filing at the consulate.

AOS application, also simple.  This is my physical cover letter, word for word:

Attached is form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, for ####  The purpose of this application is to obtain 2-year conditional status under Section 201(b) INA.

US Entry, K3 status, was January 23, 2008, in San Francisco, Ca.

With the application are:

(2) Current photos

I-797 Notice of Approval for I130 Immigrant Petition

I-797 Notice of Approval for I129F Petition (K3 petition)

I-864 Affidavit of Support

            2006 W2, 1099R for Sponsor

2006 Copy of Federal Tax Return for Sponsor

Form 8453-OL 2006 DCN as issued by IRS

2007, Final check stub, Federal Tax has not been filed at this time.

G325A and written supplement

Current Vaccination Supplement form, sealed

Police Certificate, Copy as submitted to US Embassy #######

Birth Certificate, Authorized Translation (a copy in both original ##### and authorized translation was also submitted with the I-129F petition)

Passport, as issued, front page

Passport, name change to #####, as issued by Immigration office, ######

Passport, Visa as issued by US State Department

Passport, entry stamp, US Customs and Border Protection

I-94 Front (I94# ########)

I-94 Back, (A number #########)

Passport registration of new address, as updated by ###### Consul, Houston, Tx

Social Security number is pending receipt of Employment Authorization per Social Security official.  I-765 Application for Employment Authorization is also attached to be concurrently filed with this Application.

We were unsure of what the non-immigrant Visa Number is.  We copied the readable section on the bottom of the Visa itself (see attached copy of the issued Visa).

Medical examination was completed December 17, 2007 prior to Embassy interview.  Records were turned over at US entry San Francisco.

Also nothing.  No affidavits, letters, photos, s-x tapes, flowers, puppet shows, concerts, announcements, or joint assets of any kind, way, shape, or form.

These things were  for ROC and by that time everything we had was all blended together just like a normal couple so we had matching drivers licenses, joint accounts, we were beneficiaries to each others retirements accts etc, we had joint car insurance, joint lease on the apt, joint credit cards, and all that stuff.  As noted in earlier post, the one thing I did make sure that the I134 for the embassy included a health insurance card for her and that she had one (employer based) but that was to settle the public charge question.

So I never advise, based on experience, that couples over-think their initial petition filing with USCIS.  If there is a worry bring some stuff to the interview. The CO won't look at it LOL, but by all means bring it.

Point:  I130 does not require a lot of joint asset proof and neither does AOS transfer from K visa.  They want proof of legal eligibility to marry and proof that you are legally married.  After SS number is issued and well before you are looking at ROC you need to plan to co-mingle your assets and liabilities like most other couples do and at ROC that will be scrutinized.

Depends on consulate. I know others like you with nothing and others with the kitchen sink and still need more.  I would NEVER suggest only a marriage certificate and nothing else.

Quality over quantity but never dont send anything but the marriage cert.

I am simply providing information reflecting (3) petitions + an AOS, and from not one but two different embassies in two different countries.

We all have different experiences yes, but my wife and I have a LOT lol....so I generally advise to do what we did.
