My mom had her interview on December 5 and while she was still inside US Embassy - Manila, I received an email from them that says she needs to submit an NBI A.K.A. for the name on her birth certificate. Her parents changed her name when she went to first grade but did not change what was registered. For example. she was registered as Gina and they changed it to Liza. Her NBI clearance does show "A.K.A. Gina".

What is USEM asking for? Is an NBI A.K.A. another type of clearance that you have to separately apply for? Or does my mom simply have to go back to NBI and have the information on her profile corrected?

Also in the email, USEM gave this instruction:

WHAT TO DO NEXT:

* SUBMISSION OF REQUIRED DOCUMENT(S): Please use the 2GO courier service to return document to the Immigrant Visa Unit. Information on the procedure may be found at http://supplychain.2go.com.ph.  This service is free of charge.

The link only takes me to the webpage of 2GO and could not find any information on the procedure. My mom said she didn't get any form or pre-paid envelope from the embassy, so we have no clue what exact address to send it to,  to whom it needs to be addressed, and how to send it free of charge. So to anyone who had to go through this, please do share your experience as far as sending the document via 2GO.

Any help is appreciated.

She needs a new NBI with all aka's searched. Once you have that then go to a 2go store and they will send it back to USEM at no charge to you. Be sure to make a copy of EVERYTHING you send back.

Nothing more and nothing less than that.  I'm sorry that you missed some of the post's that Hank and I have made over the years where we explain that the NBI needs to have all names searched. I am saying this now so in the future if anyone reads this they will understand what is needed. AKA's must be included on any NBI for a visa interview.

This is just a little bump in the road and once you return the NBI clearance they will process her visa. Expect 2-3 weeks if there are no additional problem which I don't see happening as they also would have been included in this 221(g) that you are addressing with her AKA's.

Also, be sure not to buy any plan tickets till she has the visa in her hands and she has checked all the names and spelling. If correct then buy your tickets.  Safe travels for her.

They are asking for a new NBI with the AKA .   Simple as that.    Take a copy of the email (221g) from the embassy to NBI when requesting the new NBI.

As for 2GO.   A copy of the email from the embassy needs to be included with the new NBI, take both to 2GO they will know what to do and where to deliver the documents.  There will be no charge for this.  No special envelope is needed.

Thank you very much Greenbaum and Hank. Yea, I wish I had read those threads before. They're pretty old, though. My mom did write her birth (first) name down on the NBI clearance application as AKA. The mistake was that she didn't write her maiden name and father's surname as well next to it.

Fortunately, we haven't purchased tickets yet, although I was really tempted to when Philippine Airlines had a pretty good deal going on last month for January-September flights.

According to google it is a real address

Did you have a 221g from the embassy that you were responding to their document request?   Instructions are in the 221g.

Did you give NBI a copy of the 221g email/letter?
