Thank you. Thats so interesting . Like imagine if you get your visa but cannot enter immediately due to a personal reason and then your medical exam expires.

Yes, I'm glad they mentioned it to me because although I got my Visa a month ago I'm not going to be entering the US for another two weeks from now so we'll only have about two months before everything expires instead of three.

What is the date of expiry listed on the Visa?

This is why they state to get your medical done as close to your interview as possible.

The visa is to enter the US within a 6 month time frame. Then you gain an additional 90 days to stay in the US. @Naes can you confirm this?

No. You must enter within 6 months expiry of your medical as that is when your K1 expires.

Once you enter you have 90 days to get married. You aren't really "gaining" anything as it's still part of the original 6 month window of medical expiry. If you chose to enter at the end of your six months, your medical may expire and you will have to redo it to apply for AOS.

6 months from medical.

It wouldn’t cause a need to redo it when applying AOS, because applying would be within the timelines (AOS counts it as a year not 6 months to expire). It needs to be 1 year from medical to the aos interview. Which recently is already hard to catch because of the wait times for GC.

so overall as @K1visaHopeful said, you don’t gain anything in the terms of medical, but also may not matter because most medicals expire while waiting for AOS these days anyway 🤷‍♀️

Question: I know there a timeline associated with the medical date. Is it that you can enter within 6 months of your  medical date or is it that your visa expires 90 days after the medical date? If anyone can answer this question, it would be greatly appreciated.

You have 6 months after the medical to enter the USA.  The visa will expire 6 months after the medical.

After I was approved at my interview I was told that even though it was techically 90 days after I enter the US we would actually have to get married by November something because that was when my medical exam expired.

Uh no.  You have an I-94 that becomes valid after entering on your K1.  That is the 90 day period in which to get married.

The medical is valid for 1 year for the AOS interview date.  Right now, most AOS are not approved within 1 year so majority have to get their medicals redone in the USA.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum as we just received NOA2 the other day. I've done some research and have started gathering documents needed for the interview (police certificate, birth certificate, affidavit of support supporting evidence, etc).

I've read a few notes on calling the NVC a week after receiving NOA2 to see if our case has been received and forwarded to the Montreal Embassy. But I'm still a little unclear as to what to do next - Can someone please clarify the next steps for me? And if there is an appropriate forum you can link me to, I'd appreciate it! Thank you 😁

Question : I signed up for the home delivery option of the passport when I registered for my interview. For those who chose this option, how long did it take to get your passport back after the interview?

Is this suppose to expedite the shipping of the passport or is it for only delivery to your home versus a courier station?

Is this suppose to expedite the shipping of the passport or is it for only delivery to your home versus a courier station? It did kind of expedite it in my case because instead of waiting for the post office to have to send it to your house, you just pick it up at the post office. In my case the courier station was just the post office. Plus it saves time as you wont have to sit around at your house for the mail man to come. Plus if you miss the mailman it wont just be left in the mailbox. The mail man will require to check for the proper ID and have you personally sign for it. I dont know why they would charge you more to have it delivered to your home if it will take longer and you would personally have to be there to sign for it.

When you say it was ready for pickup on Friday, does that mean you didn't choose the expedite option to send to your house? If you could clarify  that would be great.

Sorry. Yes I misread your question. I did not pay extra for home delivery because the cheaper courier option (through Canada Express post) was just delivery to my post office. I then could pick it up whenever the post office was open and did not have to worry about taking a day off of work to sit at home and wait for the courier to deliver it to my house. Seemed pointless because it would have to stop at the post office anyways and be sorted taking more time before it was sent to my house if I paid extra.

So the cheap way took 2 days.
