Thank you! Have you traveled to the US after submitting the ds 160?

No if you notice I did not do a DS-160 but many people have reported it and been fine, as well as the DS-260.

There are alot of Canadians who visit their fiance(e)s in the US after submitting the DS160. As long as the Canadian can prove he/she has ties to Canada (letter from employer stating they are taking vacation and will be back at work on Day Month Year, have a roundtrip ticket, packing light, have K1 related documents with them) they usually go through without issue. The people who encounter issues are those who quit their jobs or are currently unemployed, have no paperwork to show ties in Canada (leases, etc), purchased a one way ticket or are going across with a wedding dress, goodbye letters from friends and family, a u-Haul full of personal belongings, etc. The border security are especially suspicious of these people because it really looks like they are moving to the US and not visiting. There's a show on TV called Border Security (reality show) that explores this type of situation over and over.   They'll catch people crossing over who are travelling with all of their belongings and are trying to convince the border agent they are going just for a week. Ummm, no.  My fiance and I have crossed over the border together when he was going to University in Canada. I flew from Montreal to NJ and we drove back up together. We were driving in a  vehicle with European shipping plates as the military shipped his car over(so no state plates). This isn't relevant to the story but I just included it as it was the reason we spent so much time inside the border offices. We dealt alot with border security on both sides is what I'm trying to say here. Something that helped us alot is we called the border crossing ahead of time ( Lacolle in our case), explained our situation, asked which types of documents they required and got the agents information/badge number. You don't have to do this but it did help us. You could even go ask one of the border agents at Trudeau airport or call them.  If you are flying out of Montreal directly to the US, you would clear customs here in Montreal so if for any reason they said no, you would know right here at the airport. Honestly if you're flying and staying for a short period of time, have a letter from work, roundtrip ticket, are honest with the agents and can prove you're coming back, you shouldn't encounter an issue. Another option is to have your fiance come visit you here. My fiance was here last week in Montreal for our friend's wedding so it worked out perfectly! Hope this helps you! ☺️

Hi everyone, a fellow canadian had a question in regards which website to use to sign up for the interview. Is it the immigrant visa website (https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv) or the non-immigrant visa website (https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/niv) ?

I booked through the green website, it was the direct link from Packet 4. For extra confirmation, you could always call the visa appointment agents. They are very friendly and helpful. They can verify in the system for you. I call the Montreal line (because I live in Montreal) but they have a different lines for most major Canadian cities. You'll need to provide alot of the K1 info so maybe best to gather all your info before calling

Sorry guys for so many questions. You all have been  more than helpful and I greatly appreciate it. I wanted to know how long does it usually take to get the passport back via courier after the interview assuming all went well and there was no issues?

Hey guys! Just finished my medical this morning. Results should be ready for pickup in 3 days. I went to Medisys in Montreal. I didn't need any vaccines (I travelled alot in my 20s so all those vaccinations I had to get for foreign travel came in handy ). All in all, the appointment took about 2 hours. Everyone was really nice and professional. Ladies, a tip, try not to plan your appointment if it's that time of the month as it "could" contaminate your urine test and you would have to do it again in a few days. Only an issue for ladies not living in Montreal.

Has anyone answered you yet? I think it takes about a week, obviously longer if the recipient lives in a remote area of Canada or if there is a postal strike or other random factors such as if there are multiple visas being issued (parent and child)

Fastest is 2-4 days. Depends on what day of the week you got approved. They can change your status at ceac same day or next day. And once your status says “issued” then expect to get an email from Montreal the next day or same day. And then Canada post the next day. Courier usually is an express next day service. So depends on where you live you can probably get it next business day. Its awesomely really fast.

The day after my interview I got an email saying it was being sent out. I got it the Monday after. I lived in a very rural area of southern Manitoba so was pleasantly surprised that it came so quick.

Hello All. So I went online to review Packet 4 (https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/03/Packet4-MTL.pdf

I noticed that it says that for step 5 it says "OBTAIN THE ORIGINAL I‐864 AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT AND COPY OF THE RECENT U.S. TAX RETURNS"

I thought we needed the I-134 and not the I-864 for the K1 visa. Which one do we fill out and bring to the interview?

I-134 is required for the interview.

I believe the I-864 is completed after you're married.

The P4 letter in general is not specific to the K1 visa, so it is confusing.

I traveled to the US twice after submitting the DS-160. I was never asked about it or any pending visa applications; however, I did carry documentation to prove my ties to Canada just in case.
