Woah.. i did mine last week! It’s free.. eventhough they’re aware that it’s for US immigration. They will just ask for your health card.. lol

D'oh! They said it was because they had to fill out a special form. Oh well, too late.  :P

How long on average between sending Packet3 (after being prompted  by the consulate to do so) and receiving packet4? Is it a long wait?

Generally less than a week.

Hi everyone. My interview is this Friday and I’m utterly mortified.

My fiancé is a PhD student in engineering who is defending his thesis at the end of the month. He earned over the 125% working at the university and we are bringing the W2s and tax returns to prove it.

I’m worried the CO in Montreal will view his situation as precarious, since he is graduating so soon and has been applying for permanent work positions, thus his current job st the university may not deemed permanent.

However, he has a chunk of money he invested from an inheritance (well into the 6 digits) and we are able to prove that he has this capitol with statements from his investors. Do you think this will satisfy the demands for the I 134 and make up for his precarious work situation?

Anything else I should submit to support the I 134?

Everyone's situation is unique. If you can bring along your bank statements showing you can support yourself financially that would definitely help. If you attended University or have a specialized skill, any documents showing that that would help as well. Even credit reports showing a lack of debt or an amazing credit score. A summary of your own investments here too. Basically anything to show you have some sort of financial safety net in place. Hope this helps!!! I'm sure you'll be fine! Did you get your medical here?

Thanks! I must be so nervous I am daydreaming about every possible thing that could go wrong. We are able to prove no debt on his part, enrolment and employment at the university and a decent nest egg. I hope that’s enough.

I also asked the Consulate about long form birth certificates as I only have my short one from birth; they said short form is fine but the CO may determine if a long form is needed eventually. I’m having a long form couriered to my hotel just in case!

I had my medical two weeks ago in Vancouver. The meeting with the actual doctor was literally five minutes. X ray and blood work at a clinic down the road. Had immunization booster shots the week before. I think all is good. Have you had the medical yet? How did it go?

I'm sure you'll be fine!!! 😊 I haven't had my medical yet. I'm waiting for Packet4... My fiance is coming to visit me in Montreal in 2 days so my focus has shifted to that for now 😁That's amazing your medical was so quick! I'm curious about the medical... I read online some ppl say to bring health records? Wouldn't all that be available on some Federal database?

I think health records are only relevant if you are currently on medication or have a persistent health problem. However immunization records should be brought in.

I would imagine these days lots of things are put in databases but I think having the documents prepared beforehand is most efficient because doctors really don’t have any time to sift through the entire patient file.

I hope you enjoy your visit with the fiancé!

Get your long form birth certificate.  If it's from BC you can expedite it and have it in 2-3 days.

If I recall correctly, you can use assets amounting to greater than $200k in lieu of income, the specific details are noted on the i-864 (the legally binding version of the affidavit of support used in the AOS process). Lack of debt isn't a necessity as far as I'm aware (I'm the petitioner and I have student loans and a bit of CC debt) - but I'm sure it may help in some capacity. The main things they're going to look for are income or assets - or a joint sponsor who meets these requirements. This isn't specifically called out on the 134, I don't think, but it is on the 864. Everything else is an extra. I have life insurance in the 6 figs that would help my case, but I've decided not to include it for example because getting documentation is a pain. But, I also meet the necessary income reqs.

That’s a relief. He has liquid assets that amount to greater than 200k and his grad student pay is greater than 125%, which I can prove for the last three years. It’s just that he’s graduating in a few months, meaning potentially no income if he doesn’t find a job immediately after we get married.

I had my interview in Montreal today and things went wrong.

The lady who interviewed me said I was totally approvable (documents were great and the interview went well), but the person who adjudicated my petition forgot to ‘tick a box’ on the petition and legally she cannot issue me the visa until that gets rectified, so she has to send the petition back down to California.

I had to fly all the way out from British Columbia just so they could tell me this??

She encouraged me to write the Consulate regularly for updates, and she labelled my case “extremely urgent” and she hopes USCIS will have it done pronto.

Has this his ever happened to anyone else? What the fudge???? Talk about bad luck.
