I still have my maiden name but want to take my husbands name when I am allowed to. But I was reading a few things on here and as I understand it, I can fill out my I-485 form with my husbands name as my surname? Correct? :wacko:

"When you are allowed to?" Aren't you already married? Not sure what you mean by that.. but yes we filed our AOS in my new Married name. No issues at all.. You submit both the copy of the VISA & the Marriage Certif. so they know you are one in the same!

2007-05-17: EAD Card Production Ordered

2007-05-21: I485 Approved

Yep, I filed in my married name too.

BTW- Winterr- where are you located in Ohio? I'm in Cincy and I just sent my AOS paperwork yesterday! Good luck with your process.

I thought that I had to wait until I got my greencard to change my name to my husbands. Does my name change to his name automatically? Thanks for your help. (F)

Your can submit your I485/G325A with your married name. This will put your married name into the system. You'll still need to change your name on the passport, and I think that's done with an empassy/home country somehow. Your name change will also be given updated in Social Security's system by the time you have your NOA, from what I've read.
