Translating own birth certificate for NVC.

Hey guys,

 

Quick question. My fiances berth cert is in French and looking to translate it for NVC. From my understanding, she allowed do it herself as shes bilingual.

Here is the question:

What does the completed translation look like?

Should I photoshop the original with English translations next to the words?

Or just type out the whole thing in a word processor?

 

And yes, I do know to add the footnote.

I, <translator name>, hereby certify that I am fluent in the English and French languages and that this is a true and accurate translation of the attached Birth Certificate.

I believe it has to be done by a translator. It will be a separate document (no Photoshop involved)

Here is the bottom part of my English translated BC. Hopefully it helps, despite the amount of information I have to cover.

It does need to be a translator, but it can be anyone who is "competent" in both languages. I translated some of my own documents.

 

@np2fast There is no gold standard for the format, but it should be on a separate page, include a written statement by the translator stating that they are competent, and should follow the same general format as the original. Photoshopping the translation of the original is not necessary, simply try to keep the same layout. The placements of items in the original should match those in the translation (top/bottom left/right).

Before you go to the trouble of doing any translating, what country is the interview taking place in?  Document translation requirements vary from country to country.

Canada(Montreal).

Just going to be on the safer side and translate it. Actually, it was rather simple and took 20 minutes.

Anyone looking here in the future, attached is a quick translation.

Omit the part about the website as it's not on all of the certificates. 

 

And don't forget to add the foot note:

A document in French would not need translation for Montreal but the guideline would be to present a separate document that looks as much like the original as possible in format, etc. with the typing in English instead of whatever language the original was.  Then add the certification at the bottom.
