I know in my state they would not allow my husband to be added to our utilities without us paying a huge deposit and I have had the accounts in mine and my deceased husband's name, then in mine. So they are still in my name and we got a T-mobile account in his name alone. I also know when we went to buy a car earlier this year they would not accept his social security number since it was too newthey said --- but take caution too. If they have run his name and social security card they could of done so with errors. It happened to us with Toyota they ran his name backwards and mistyped his social security card. Took me over three months to get all this cleared with the three main credit bureaus.

T-mobile: I had no issue being added to my partner's T-mobile account.

I'd blame your dealer, not Toyota. 8 weeks in the country I was approved for a lease on a new Camry (subject to other issues of proof of income, etc).

I did that for the Gas co., I suppose I will do it for the Electric. Does it help him establish credit?

Unfortunately, no. The credit bureaus couldn't care less about utilities, on the rationale that you pay them because you have to (re quality of life). They're interested in your ability and desire to timely repay non-necessary debts.

If he has income, the first two I'd suggest (these ones approved me whilst others rejected me - note too, that being rejected for "lack of history" will NOT be recorded as a negative outcome) - Capital One, and Citibank, regardless of their desirability beyond that (which is a judgment you will obviously have to make).

This is within the first three months of my arrival. I have applied for, and received three credit cards (one rejected, annoyingly, from the bank my salary goes into).

Six weeks into the country, my wife and I (my wife has no income, "fair" credit, high debt to equity ratio), and me (with at that point zero credit history, but at the risk of sounding conceited, very high income) were able to apply, with my as the primary applicant for a lease with Toyota (although that's a little different, as they are always able to repo the car, so there's less risk).

My husband has never added my name to any of our utility bills and it has not been a problem for us.... we do have a credit card that I am an authorized user on and I now have a credit card and store cards in my own name.... and now I have a mortgage with my husband names as secondary applicant....

At our AOS interview we were not asked about why we did not have both names on the utility bills although we did have some utility bills as proof of the same address....
