Hi,  we got the standard 1 year extension letter last year.  My wife's 2 year card expires on March 12, 2019.

Our baby is due March 31 to April 6th - and I need to make sure we can renew my wife's NC drivers license

as it expires on March 12th when her green card extension expires.  I tried making an appointment at

our local office online, but the infopass system says this office is not accepting appointments.  When

I try calling the USCIS phone number I just get a menu system that goes in circles and never gives me

an option to speak with a live person.

Does anyone know what number I can call to speak to someone about extending her current card until

the 10 year card is approved?  I just want to get her drivers license renewed so she can get to doctors

appointments, etc...

We never got the 18 month extension.

Thanks much.

I-751 sent Dec. 27th, 2018

NOA - 01/03/2018

Biometrics - 01/31/2018

Congratulations on your upcoming baby!

This was the same situation I was in, except replace baby’s due date with needing to travel.  I never received the 18 month letter.

At the bottom of the page where it says your office isn’t accepting appointments there’s a little paragraph that says:

“If you need help with document services (such as passport stamps and advance parole) or have an emergency, call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283. USCIS representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern except on federal holidays.”

I called and they had someone call me back to schedule me at the office that wasn’t accepting appointments online.

As @Amhara said,  I believe whoever processed the inquiry may have just approved my case as it was suddenly approved 3 days later, the same day as my new infopass appointment, and my 10 year greencard arrived within the week.

I’ll add that I did submit an online inquiry as well but all of the above occurred before I even heard a response from them, which was about a month.

My case hasn't been transferred. So I assume they are approving cases randomly as well. I have a friend who is an August 2017 filer, and she hasn't seen any movement yet! She is also a Vermont filer.

OMG what the hell has VSC been doing these months?! I was looking at the processing time for i751 -- for at least a month now it still says Oct 13th, 2017, while CSC has moved from being slower than VSC to one month ahead of it!

Waiver filer here. Received an email notification stating an RFE notice was sent to my address.

Same here! The suspense is giving me so much anxiety 😩 I’m worried that they ask for more evidence, I already sent them everything I could think of.

@madpnd - it will not be an interview (yet, if there is to be one).  The adjudication process is by the book.  RFE is the step taken to resolve any issue that could be resolved by “documentary evidence” first.

Only if what you submit still doesn’t satisfy the officer working on your case, then the case may be “transferred” to your local office for an interview.  If that happens, it will take however long it takes for your local office to schedule you for an interview.

I am one of those nerds and I read the entire adjudication manual, which must be followed by all adjudicating officers.  I know pretty much all procedurals and steps USCIS are required to follow before they can do anything.  Immigration process is very bureaucratic and that is why it takes forever for cases to be processed (apart from their “don’t care” attitude).  Even your RFE must be reviewed by a supervisor before it can be sent to you, if the officer is a junior person by rank.

Thank you for explaining this to me. ☺️ I was wondering, do you have any idea how long is usually the estimated time between the submission of RFE and approval/interview request? I have less than 3 months before I leave and I just wish I’ll be here in the country when they send me an update.

@madpnd - That is a very difficult part for anyone to answer.  If you keep up with the previous posts, it would “appear” that it takes about a month to hear something back from the date USCIS receives your RFE response, assuming that everything goes smoothly.  There are too many factors that could change that - for example: (1) your case officer could be on vacation, (2) your case officer could temporarily reassigned to another adjudicating group to help with a surge in workload etc. We cannot anticipate any of those factors.

So to answer your question is - You cannot guess but you can hope you hear back from USCIS within the next three months, and there is a decent chance that it happens within that timeframe.

What I can tell you for certain is - the clock is ticking (count against processing time the officer spends on your case) as soon as the RFE is received by USCIS.  The clock stops when the RFE is issued to you and while they are waiting for your response.  Every officer is being monitored how long a case is taking, so you can be sure that the officer will try to close your case by either adjudicating or transferring it for interview as soon as he/she can.

One thing about case transfer for interview is also not something that is favored by neither the Service Centers nor the Field Offices.  The policy memorandum has been issued specifically both by the Obama Administration and the Trump Administration to attempt to reduce the backlog on I-751.  This includes the use of RFEs first and foremost to avoid scheduling an interview.  Interviews are to be used as a final tool, with exception to fraud suspicion, some divorce waiver cases, and random selection by the system.

GBOS- It seems they assigned a  few IO for I-751 and they are overloaded.  I-751 requires so many documents and IO officers could find minor issues, they can issue RFE and they would get breathing room .
