My assumption is that the Consulate will be wondering the same things we are, how will you answer?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Don’t lie about the reason you want to visit. That can have very bad consequences. But if your mom is resident in the US it will be harder to get a visa, not easier.

Because I know people who have done this, I maybe understand a bit better why you want to do this. No point waiting till you can immigrate to think about the exams, then you are stuck doing something relatively menial while you have to wait a year or two or three to be able to do the exams. If you have them before you arrive  you can register immediately and work at a job you’re properly suited for and contribute more meaningfully. Everyone is better off that way.

There are plenty of people who manage to get visas to take US tests - i suggest you do a search for forums for some of these, there must be discussions about it. It’s critical that you can show the interviewing officer that you will only visit to take the test, maybe a brief few days/week visit too and that you will go back home; job, property etc are important here. You have to be totally honest in your interview. Different situation but I personally had a B visa interview where I explained to the CO (in response to a direct question of “do you want to live in the US?” ) that yes, I did plan to emigrate to the US, but I was going to do it legally and properly when the time came and right now I just wanted to visit; he granted me a 10 year multiple entry visa. Be honest, present the facts...it’s all you can do. Have a plan B if you get denied.

So you are looking at moving to the US in 15 or so years and want to do the Exams now?

Laws do not allow it?
