Affidavit of Support

My girlfriend and I filed for the K1 visa and received or NOA on November 13. Unfortunately, we forgot our letter of intent, so the process may be delayed by about two months. What the two of us are more worried about, however, is the affidavit of support. My girlfriend and I live in Ukraine, though I'm back in the states to make some money right now. I, however, do not earn 20k and so I probably need a co-sponsor, preferably my father. I don't quite know how well that would work, though. Has anyone had any problems with a co-sponsor before? Is there another option?

There's not really another option. Either you find a way to earn the minimum amount of income or you find a joint sponsor that does. Any USC or LPR within the US can be a joint sponsor.

 

For the I-134 (for a K-1 visa), only 100% of the poverty level is the minimum. That said, the CO looks at the totality of the circumstances once above the minimum, and some still want to see the 125% (20k) level. COs at some embassies are hesitant to accept a joint sponsor for the I-134, but Ukraine doesn't jump out to me as one...hopefully another member going through that embassy can confirm.

 

For the I-864 (for AOS after entering on the K-1 visa), the 125% level is required. However, a joint sponsor absolutely is permitted.
