This is probably a odd question but how long do you think I can wait to go to the interview etc.. after we get approved? We aren’t fully ready yet to go ahead with the whole process but we just wanted to get this long wait out of the way first do you think a couple months or what? I’ve been here in the U.S for 3 months now but will be flying back home to the U.K this Sunday. So I’m gonna be starting a new job when I get back to put more money behind us (we are only 20) but I just would like an estimate time that I can wait until we proceed with the process if anyone knows. I certainly don’t wanna go through the process of sending another petition and paying 535$ again that’s for sure.

The noa2 approval expires after a few months (someone else can probably say if it's 4 or 6, I'm drawing a blank) but the long and short of it is unless you can convince the embassy to extend it, you've got a limited window in which you can push the interview back before that approval expires and you have to start again

Met Online : 1/16/15

Met In Person : 10/15/16

Flew to NZ and Proposed : 3/6/17

Visit to US : 8/28/17

NOA2 : 1/24/18

NVC Received Case : 2/5/18

Forwarded to Auckland : 2/6/18

Packet 3 Received : 2/6/18

Packet 3 Completed : 3/1/18

Packet 4 Received : 3/9/18

Interview : 5/8/18 - APPROVED? Not officially, but yes, per CO...

I know once you get granted the visa it’s self it’s valid for 6 months but yeah I certainly wanted to avoid having to redo the whole process again.

Once you have the K1 envelope, you have 6 months to enter the USA then 90 days to get hitched. The actual NOA2 doesn't last long at all, as MM&CS said. A lot of that time will have been swallowed up by the transfer from the USCIS to the NVC. ☹️

Hey, I posted about this a couple weeks ago :)

Taken directly from https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html:

"My Petition Expired – Can It Be Extended?

The I-129F petition is valid for four months from the date of approval by USCIS (which is your NOA2 date). A consular officer can extend the validity of the petition if it expires before visa processing is completed."

Assuming the NVC wait is a valid reason, but you delaying for personal reasons may not be...

Congratulations! That's good news and although you need to wait for the case to be received at NVC, it is fine for the longest part of the wait is over. :)

Thanks! :)

Yeah that's true. At least it gave us a little bit of relief. I was worried that we're going to get an RFE since my Fiance forgot to tick the box that says I've been to the US. But i guess even if he forgot, it clearly showed that I've been there based on the photos we submitted so it didn't really matter.

(Sorry Jan '18 filer temporarily crashing the thread)

Is it really that quick here? I was expecting two or three weeks just for a medical appointment because that's what it is for the NHS...

Also congratulations on your NOA2! ;)

It definitely is if you are savvy about the whole thing, yes.   Especially with everything slowed down, they aren't so busy in terms of visa approval interviews.

Oooooooh, does this mean you will be one of the first people to go to the shiny, new embassy building?

Nah - it opened today, I still have to wait a bit - BOO!

I was under the impression that you could only schedule interviews at the UK embassy a month out.

That was added on the London Consulate portal on 2016-05-18. It was removed on 2017-12-27.

Can anyone clarify? I'm feeling really nervous about this. LOL

Thats definitely not the case at the moment.

The Almaty KZ consulate emailed me when they received our case Friday 1/12, they emailed her the packet 3/4 today 1/16 and scheduled a interview date in Feb.  Very efficient for once.

We do feel the same even if for others reasons (my fiancé got deployed and get back in July..)

As an example, with calculations we get to think that if we get approve tomorrow I wont have the visa in hands possibly before 3-4months counting the NVC wait, medical and interiew etc.. So we are doing the whole process and Then the visa is valid for about 6months, so I will just wait for his comeback..

Oh okay I understand. So say if we get NOA2 before I fly out on Sunday what should I start doing after that? I had everything written down what I needed to do exactly but having been here for a few months we kinda just pushed everything to the side about the whole thing so now I’m lost with what to do after NOA2 especially cause we wanna wait awhile now until we proceed. If you guys can help me out so I can save it in my notes what we should do I would really appreciate it

Hmmm considering the current wait for the transfer to NVC nothing others that communicate (especially since you both currently together) about the papers he/she needs to get ready for the affidavit of support such as pay stubs, w2, bank statement and the I-134 form signed from the petitioner. Those documents needs to be as recent as possible and are to bring to the interview, so no real rush but just so when you'll need it you guys both know what its about.

After several weeks you can start calling the NVC to get your case number

I don't have all answers as I am learning everyday here too, but there is plenty of pages here to help, It sounds complicated but at the end they all make it so no worries ! ;)

@vocaledge thank you! Got confirmation- it's typically a month wait but there's no minimum you have to wait.

Best news I've had all day. Congratulations, by the way :)

Ahah Thank you for asking

Well, He called USCIS thrusday and coudnt get a tier 2 (military number tho).. They just told him to change his address on USCIS website.. So we are now waiting for a APO address where he is currently based to update online. Hope this will work !!

Nobody can take his mails at his house in US..

An NOA2 sitting there is not that bad as the transfer to NVC is "automatic".. It's an RFE that I fear.. How can we respond if we do not know about it ?! And now they decide to not update case status online anymore.. <_<

We are not in the rush anymore I'd say, we just want to know what's going on..

Edit : Do you know how long do we have to respond an RFE once (if) received ?
