No kidding. We are abiding by all laws and doing everything legally and we are basically treated like criminals. I feel for all immigrants who have the “American Dream”. It is dead right now. Hopefully we will find a great compromise between the need for security and the allowing of people to come here to make a better life. We are a country of immigrants and immigrants built this country. Hopefully someday we will once again live up to the words on the Statue of Liberty.

I know this isn’t really related to your quote, John, but I wanted to say something to you.  I have enjoyed reading what you put about your family and the Phillipines.  It has made me consider going there one day.  Actually, a guy at work told me he met a Filipino woman and I said, “Yay! But is she is US Citizen?”  Thank God she is!  I don’t wish this on people!  It must be hard to make the decision about the kids’ school.  I don’t know you, but I really hope you get news soon.  I felt your family’s pain since Christmas 🎄 not being able to be together.  I hope it happens this week and your paperwork falls into the first outgoing bin to NVC.  I can really tell you are genuine in your love and it is refreshing in a world of self- centered people.

Got our case number this morning!  I'm on the west coast at the moment, so called from bed around 5am PST - had to scramble for a pen and paper when they asked me for the beneficiary's name (gave them the wrong birthday too, in my sleepy state...)  They must have received and assigned the number yesterday, as they didn't have the file in the system when I called yesterday morning.  48 days from NOA2 notice date to NVC, so at least it seems that they're staying consistently slow from October/November/December and not slowing down further.

Wow, can't believe I'm saying this - time for my fiancé to schedule his medical and do the DS-160!  I sent the I-134 back in November in my naiveté, so I think I'll redo it as it'll be pretty out of date by the interview.  I think we're the first Kiwi case to make it through, so I can let all the other Auckland people know how things go :) @MarksMate @Kat&Joel (others I'm missing?)

Thank-you. Congratulations guys!! You'll be ready to close the distance soon. I hope ours does not go past 48 days. Currently day 31. Please keep us updated on the process because I am so confused as to what exactly happens after NVC. I book medical and interview? I don't think Auckland Embassy has a long waiting time at all. Do you know how far out you book your interview? I am fairly certain packet 4 is just some information but what is packet 3 and it needs to be sent back right?  I'll be checking your guys timeline out like a hawk now. Yay!!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I can honestly say that I was not always this way. After my divorce I had a bit of an epiphany. It changed my life and taught me that life is truly too short not to do your best to be happy. Our happiness is up to us. We need to do what we need to do to find it. We cannot expect others to make us happy if we are not already working to be happy on our own. I am at a great place in my life. Probably the best place I have ever been. It is not just because of Rose. If I wasn’t already happy, I wouldn’t deserve her. Our love is easy. We enhance each other. Her strengths are my weaknesses. My strengths are her weaknesses. That is why we just sit back and wait for this all to happen. While time is the most valuable commodity, we will have time together. Maybe less than we would like but each moment we spend together will last for eternity. I am truly blessed. I hope that others here can have the type of ephiphany that I’ve had. To learn what is truly important in life. There is a lot of minutiae that tries to fool us but life and love is so much easier than that. To find one person to care for and love until your last breath. That is what is truly important. When we are dust, our love will go on for generations.

Your attitude to this journey is admirable. I really hope you guys get your NOA2 very very soon, you deserve it. All the couples do. You are only about an hour and a half drive away so hi neighbor! Illinois is a huge adjustment for me coming from New Zealand, there are SO many cornfields and soy beans :o

Don’t forget about the corn!!!  Lots of freaking corn!!!  Some of the best, sweetest most juicy corn on earth!  And the Midwest corn fed beef!  Illinois is interesting because you go from flat farmland to one of the greatest cities in the world with a short car ride.

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

How about corn- fed corned beef, lol?  Maybe some Cornish game hens?  Aye!  When my humor is this corny, it’s time for bed.  Good night, esteemed friends...

So, this is my understanding: medical is anytime after you get the case number (at least, that's what the clinic in Wellington said), then when your case makes it to Auckland they'll send you packet 3 with info to return (including release form for police records).  I believe this checklist here is the bulk of packet 3...then once they receive it they'll schedule your interview and notify you of the date.  I know it WAS quite short - I've heard as short as a week early in 2017 - but no clue about now.  I've tried to find out but it's pretty impossible to get an answer out of anyone!  I'll certainly let you know when we find out.

And, as a (nearly) lifelong Midwesterner, let me say: welcome / haere ra!  It's cold here, and we have 100% less ocean, but it's a very nice (if fairly unassuming) part of the country.  My fiancé is originally from the Waikato and he says this is the part of the U.S. that feels most like home :)

Hi all,

Just got back from visiting my fiancé, and although the future is still so uncertain with him being affected by the travel ban, a NOA2 paper was here to greet me once I got home.

NOA1: June 21st

NOA2: January 4th

No RFEs, no updates online.

Congratulations

There is one more person dealing with the travel ban at the moment in May, if you want to check. (trying to find his user name but couldn't...)
