As far as dental education and experience or any other foreign credentials, I know that Corrections is always hiring.  I know that sounds horrible, but it really isn’t.  I never set out to work in a prison, but working with the inmates is just as rewarding as with any other clients, students, etc. for those of us who choose to.  Unfortunately, we have a lot of people who are working at slightly less than what they were credentialed for in their own country, such as a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist.  There are so many jobs a person can get from the medical field to trades and Education.  It could be a way for a person’s fiancé to work in their field sooner.  But, it’s not for everyone.

My fiancé was a dental nurse, doing cavities, extractions, x-rays. She was trained by Australian dentists however was completely on the job trained.

I’m assuming she’d need to go to university here in order to be a dental hygienist or nurse, even if she was doing dental work for nearly 10 years in Cambodia. Does anybody know if that’s correct or if she can get some credit for all the experience?

Hi, @George & Roth

Here’s information for foreign educated dental hygienist.

https://www.adha.org/resources-docs/7319_FAQ_for_Foreign_Trained_Dental_Hygienists.pdf

I am a US Registered Nurse. If your fiancée wants to be a nurse, she has to check your State’s Board Of Nursing (BON) for the exam requirements and submit her university transcripts for credential evaluation to CGFNS. If her foreign education meets the standards of CGFNS then she can proceed to apply for the US Nursing Exam (NCLEX) through Pearson Vue. When she passes the NCLEX exam, she can apply for a job as a dental nurse.

Here’s links for a step by step guide to apply for NCLEX, CGFNS and Pearson Vue.

And yes, her 10 years of experience will be counted if she has a employment certificate from her employer. She has to be US licensed first so she can be a dental nurse.

Why do you think you got an RFE? since you already know the first time what you will send. I was assuming it was detailed?

I dont know any reason why we'd be getting an RFE and haven't recieved the letter yet so I'm totally in the dark at the moment.

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a joyful and peaceful holiday this weekend. I tried not to think about the fact that my fiancé wasn't with me/us, but also tried to focus on the fact that it was the last time we won't be together. The only thing keeping me sane during events or occasions without him is reminding myself that he will be next time. :)

I can't believe it's almost 2018. Most of us began this journey early in the year (for us, we knew we wanted to get married and embark on this journey in the summer of 2016; made it official during his last trip and got engaged in April, and started working on our petition in April and May). There as a time I'd never imagine we'd be welcoming another year while still waiting on this process, but here we are. I'm going to be arrogant enough to say 2018 is our year. ALL our year. The year we complete this process and are reunited with our partners. The year we'll all be getting married and finally starting our lives with our loved ones. I'm pretty excited for that. :)

For now, while we wait, I'm planning my first trip to Sweden! I can't believe the next time I'll take time off work will be for this trip. I feel like I've been planning this for so long, and now I can finally go. My passport FINALLY came without warning (I'm just glad they finally accepted my birth certificate). Since we're waiting for NVC right now, we're trying to wait as long as possible before I book a flight with borderline impractical hopes that I'll be able to schedule a trip around his interview in Stockholm. We know it may not happen, because he still has to finish his medical requirements, but it hasn't been thrown from the table quite yet. Has a petitioner ever traveled to their beneficiary to be there during the interview? If so, did you go with them to the office? How did that go if you did?

Håll ut, y'all.
