I don't think there's any reason to bash Dreamers. They didn't have a choice. They were brought here as infants. And, if you've actually met any of them, they're some of the hardest working people you'll ever meet. They want to do it the right way. The government promised them if they gave their information they'd give them a path to staying here legally. And then the new administration basically said, "psych! No we're not going to do that. We're going to deport you to a country you've never lived in where you may not even know anyone." If anything, this process should make all of us more sympathetic to immigrants and refugees of all types. We're all in the same boat together with this administration, who actually want to curtail legal immigration as well. And they're the reason things have become slower and more complicated for all of US.

I have bashed no one. except maybe politicians in general.  Least of all dreamers ..but sme of you would prefer to ignore that fact in exchange for emotions..there's nothing bigoted, racist, or bashing in the desire that everyone be treated equally under the law

Let me share you my recent experience on K-1 visa.

May 15th - NOA1

Nov 7th - NOA2

Jan 8th - NVC Received (new case number assigned) - at NVC

Jan 9th - NVC - in Transit

Jan 10th - NVC - Ready

Jan 18th - Completed DS-160 and submitted. And got an interview appointment online and the earliest  was "Feb 5th" so I booked that date

Jan 21st - Instruction packet from American Embassy in Tokyo arrived

Jan 22nd - Call and get appointment on health examination

Feb 5th - Interview appointment at American Embassy in Tokyo

Feb xx - K-1 Visa and passport to be sent to my address in Tokyo (expecting 3 days to a week from the interview date)

The points I'd like to share as my knowledges to K-1 filers are:

  • My case, NVC case number assigned to NVC ready was only 2 days which was really quick but I heard normally a week from NVC call center agent, FYI - K-1 visa info does not stays at NVC that long time but they send to local embassy quite fast which the agent shared me. We had  to wait 60 days wait for USCIS to NVC arrived so called more than 10 times to hurry up for the next process so they might seriously take that? Not sure 100% but FYI.
  • I could book the interview online before I get the packet itself arrived to my address in Tokyo. The way I did is I first completed and submitted DS-160 from the advice from @Naes and visited visa interview website to input my profile and pay fee by credit card and booked a date advised by @mikejoy2019 by accessing http://www.ustraveldocs.com/jp/jp-niv-typek.asp . The earliest date I could book was on Feb 5th and another choice was Feb 13th as of Jan 18th. There was only two candidate dates in Feb you know! But the good side is you can reschedule the interview date online anyhow so I thought no big risk to set an interview on earliest date which is Feb 5th.
  • The reason I tried online is, because I saw "Ready" the magic word on NVC CEAC tracking website which means not only is my case at the Embassy, but it is already entered into the system.
  • One thing I was bit worried was the health examination in Japan requires the "letter from embassy that has case number" as MUST item to book a health examination but phew...luckily it went almost the assumed timeline that I have the packet so tomorrow on Monday 22nd Jan I will book an interview.

All above is for Tokyo's case so not sure if it's same case in your country or region but hope these be of some help to you! So far, 8 months journey from NOA1, one more month and hope to close getting K-1 visa.

We were expecting 6 months and the USCIS part was sooooo long, they withheld our document to send to NVC for 60 days you know after approval in USCIS! And we asked but they don't even share us why it took 60 days, that was the most frustrating part across whole process. Now it seems better like 45 days but seems longer than used to be these days for May filers and after.

Now I need to prepare all the documents not to forget at the interview but thanks to my wonderful and knowledgable friends like @Naes @mikejoy2019 etc...all who are sharing any small things you found on this forum to have better understanding of this complex and bit tricky K-1 visa process. Can't appreciate more!

@zaika same as @alaris, when I login to book a interview, there was only Feb 5th and 13th but on the following day, there was a slot on Feb 26th. I guess if someone changes the appointment date, that slot get open so so I guess you might have chance! Guess nice to log in frequently to see if  if there is another open slot for the interview:)

So happy to see Japan cases moving forward.. And especially you because  I know how hard it is to move when kids involved.

About medical;

I will be using the one in Shinjuku because after research they seemed to be the one with best price (and they were nicer on the phone).

Something they told me was, they do it I believe Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

However they told me the emptiest spot was Wednesday mornings. Jus too give a head up :) good luck
