Your employer imprisons you and has you working 18 hours a day for a fraction of minimum wage?

Ah, now we're getting to the real issue - the working conditions of child laborers.

Yes, and not just child laborers. If someone - young or old - is literally imprisoned and forced to do work for a fraction of minimum wage it's more like slave labor.

it is sad state and speaks volumes of the Thai government lack of concern for it's youth

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Yes - I have a problem with that - not child labor per se.

In the states. for those who work on fixed income and have a salary cap, that is an indirect slave wage labor. It's not mentioned on any textbook, but it's quite easy to figure out.

I talked about those who are in serious debt, and only working minimum wage. Plus, the review yearly only gives them a 2% increase in salary. That 2% is less than the 5% CPI index. This means the person is making less than last year. So, every year in order to increase your earnings, you must get promoted no matter what or else you'll be worse than last year.

Don't bother with a savings account that earn you only 2%. You need to formulate a plan to beat the CPI index to become rich. This is way off topic.

Me too. And I know I've purchased shrimp from Costco and noticed Thailand as the source. Now I have to wonder if it was a result of slave labor.

Luckystrike,

Do you see these things happening in Thailand? Or, is it just me? Near the border, at Poi Pet, there were lots of kids living underneath bridges. Their parents are all dead from variety of illnesses. I was just curious if you happen to come across kids living in these terrible conditions.

I didn't see it. My wife has though.

It seems that in her had family kids were often taken care of by other family members if something happened to the parents. Maybe some kids don't have that family support net. My wife also mentioned that there are orphanages too.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Only a few orphans are luck to be able to goto orphanages. The unlucky ones have to live in the streets. I once saw a child with his little sister on his back, and he was holding hands with another one of his younger siblings walking underneath a bridge. They have ragged clothing, and was sleeping on dry hay. It was sad. I gave them 100 dollars.

My question is why do we only focus on these countries when it comes to poverty and kids. i know this is about child labor but i see too many saying " oh if youve only been there youd understand"

i dont have to go to cambodia or any other country in asia to see poverty, or just pure evil of ppl living under bridges and wearing the same clothes til they fall off their bodies, everywhere has that.........

even in the USA.

i know im going to get alot of ####### from this and i dont care,

if we focused as much on OUR country as we do on OTHER countries, wed have less hungry, less homeless, and less parentless children. Ppl are always so darn concerned with other countries and dont even look at their own.

Ok, i had my rant for the day :)

and ive been to MANY 3rd world countries, no its not a good place, but its the governments fault. You cant change the company until the government has been changed. I dont agree in child labor, i think its down right sickening.

Yeah, right! Did you know the government protects the people here, and never let anyone go hungry? Are you stupid? You have no idea. The people are homeless because they chose too here in the USA. If you're not smart to realize that, then you my friend need to go back to school.

And then there's Myanmar, which in many respects is to Thailand as Mexico is to the USA.

Yodrak

We, as Americans, whomever haven't traveled to those part of the world don't understand how difficult it is just to live. We here have governmental support, and take things for granted.

Over there, on the other hand, they need to worry about sanitation, and living. The events of living in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam is not as easy as here in America.

Oh give me a break, you just proved my point over how ppl care more about other countries than our own. and you only feel so strongly about this one bc your fiance is from it. if you had never gone there, you wouldnt give a hoot.

I will agree SOME homeless choose to be homeless but not ALL. and i dont think homeless children ASK to be homeless. I think you my friend need to develope some common sence :)

and the stupid remark, just made you what you called me. :D
