That is so true. There is always a paper trail in the Philippines because everybody wants some money for a fee for this or that.

Exactly!:D

The Filipino Catholic Priests like the money they receive from a lot of things. No offense to any Catholics here. It is the reality in the Philippines.

No offense taken here because I completely understand how you have to pay for this or for that, in the end it's very tiring to say the least being a Kano.

This person is not trying to commit fraud.

not trying to get a k1 with a fraud.

i repeat I said, but by law and that's why I put those links not to confuse you or anyone, in Philippines having a religious wedding and not registering if by Islam, or having a church wedding; these equals to being married under law.

therefore omitting this information and getting a cenomar would end up as a fraud let alone US embassy it would not be ok in phillipines itself.

Now I have no idea where I said this person is committing fraud. And because geowrian (I hope I wrote the name correctly) explained it better than I could, I just left it to those who could explain it better.

yet I don't understand your repetition of this as you're continuously coming back to the same things.

if this was written in a regional topic I wouldn't even open my mouth.

obviously there's a huge problem about it.

I think he misunderstood what you said @Naes but you do have a point there and I agree.

I feel bad for you guys being an American in the Philippines, the locals sometimes take advantage of you like asking for a higher fee for something.

I always say to my fiance, to let me handle the locals when we go out. It happens here in the Middle East too! They think Americans have a lot of money. My fiance is just a regular guy by the way. We take turns in paying our bills.

I know and that's why I let my asawa do everything big when we are there.

The Middle East is not as bad I think because I can always haggle with them alot more than I can in the Philippines(don't ask me why I don't know it's just a feeling).

What's funny is I met my asawa when we were both working/living in Qatar. I worked on one of the bases and she was a OFW working for a Danish family. How do you like Kuwait na? Where does your fiance live in the USA, and where in the Philippines are you from? My wife is from Davao, and yes I do go down there and into the mountains where her family is. I absolutely love it in Mindanao.

I know it's off topic but, I've been to Manila for only 1 day. And yes I've been deceived and paid a lot more on so many things than I've suppose to. And I wish it didn't happen cause that could increase their tourism even more instead of a bad reputation.

I paid the extra to the guide, didn't say anything. He needed it, reputation is so bad they don't get anyone. It's not his fault and I had it to give.

then though a taxi driver did it on my way to airport, that I felt bad. Cause I was going to give him as a tip whatever left in my pocket. But I didn't because of the attitude. And yes lots of things are similar in Middle East. Or even here in Japan sometimes.

However a country never should be associated with these stereotypes, it's the fault of who caused this to happen. And in the end I loved every single warm person I met there.

I'm really sorry if what I tried to say sounded like I was associating that word with a country which was never my intention.

I worked in Saudi and Kuwait as a nurse. My fiance and I met here in Kuwait through a mutual friend (they're both Marine veterans). He works as a DOD contractor here. We started as friends for a few months and then we started going out. It's been 2 years now!:P

I live in Cebu and I'm so excited to go island hopping in the Philippines with him. We decided to renew our vows in Cebu when my green card arrives (cross fingers). I feed him a lot of Filipino food, he gained 22lbs in 3 months. His co-workers blame me for his weight gain. :D

Mindanao has a lot of tourist spots!

Maayong Gabii dhay. Well tell your asawa Semper Fi from me. I am a Marine as well, so it's funny when my asawa uses the expression "Tell that to the Marines". That's what happened to me as well when I moved back to the USA from working in Afghanistan, she was feeding me really good and I became mataba and now I have a bilbil. She loves it and I hate it so much.

We love the Visaya region and Cebu especially. When we were there went up to Bantayan Island and stayed for a few days. But we love to island hop, and next time we go back we want to go to our friend's small island between Bohol and Cebu.

I'm sorry for your experience @Naes.  I think there are just good and bad people regardless of race or culture.  I just don't like it when people take advantage of someone and you're right we can't stereotype anyone.

I miss the beaches as well. My asawa wants to go to Palawan as well but I don't know because it has gotten touristy. We went to Boracay last year and loved it, but it is really touristy as well. I don't know what we will actually do because she also wants to do a renewal of vows when we go back as well, and I said I am doing one or the other but not both due to the cost. I forgot to mention we have to do a baptism as well on our 10 month old when we go back as well. So we can do the baptism and either one of the two but not all 3 of them.

Oh boy, that will cost you a lot of money especially with the relatives coming too! :D

You should try looking at these island beaches in Cebu. They aren't touristy. :)

That's what I am saying. The last time we went we did a Baptism for my now 4 year old and we also went to Boracay Island, we have a 10 month old na that my wife wants to get baptized in the Philippines as well. So like I said we can do 2 of them but not all 3. S

Daghang Salamat for that list. I have been to Bantayan and loved it, and I have always wanted to go to Malascup and Camotes Island. We did go to Mactan for 2 nights when we came back from Bantayan, we stayed at the really nice resort with big lagoon.
