Visa for wife's daughter, my step daughter.

Hi,

 

We are about to begin the process of obtaining a visa for my wife's daughter from the Philippines.

 

I understand that the process begins with I-130. I am a US citizen, my wife 10 year Green Card holder.

 

What I do not understand is the process for her daughter to apply for a passport, specifically the Special Power of Attorney.

 

I have been told it needs to "Red Ribboned" from NY Consulate. I really do not want to go to NYC if it can be avoided. Is this "Red Ribbon" necessary for the SPA?

Hi,

Can anyone from Philippines tell me the process for Special Power of Attorney? Some say I need to go to New York for Red Ribbon verification, some say I do not need.

 

Also... can someone tell me how to post or move this thread to the Philippines portal? I think possibly a better place for this question.

She is 14 yo. 11yo when we married. We need to get her a passport. ...So we need to give Special Power of Attorney to her aunt.

 

The rest is easy, I think, after dealing with USCIS so many times for my wife. (Wishful thinking, haha.)

 

Has anyone recently gotten their kids from Philippines? Did you need "Red Ribbon" documentation from the Philippine Consulate?
