I am not addressing one off debates in public, I am talking about the wholesale assault on the body of knowledge in the physical and social sciences. The consensus from economists is that this will add a Trillion in debt, "well what do they know"? Climate change research is another, we cannot even use the words climate change when writting a federal grant.

However you see this on both sides regardless of the issue being discussed and the fact that many like to state there is some form of consensus makes many of the opinions expressed suspect.  Science and economics are not generally based on polling and consensus.  The other thing that makes people cringe is how they present it, we keep hearing the tax bill will add $1-1.5 trillion to the budget deficit, do they do this for effect negating to mention this is a ten year projection and as most of us suspect, predicting how the federal government spends money over a two year period is almost impossible particularly without a congressional budget.

Well social sciences like econ frequently use consensus building as a tool inside their own disciplines.

I am fine with the debate over the facts and the framing if the facts in the public, I just don't want to see labels like "so called" economists.

Interesting how the label “so called” is used by all regardless of which ditch they are driving in.
