Hi everyone I need help. Due to a serious family emergency I was not able to send off the petition for K-1 fiance visa for my fiance in September of this year. He lives in Cuba and I am American. due to the recent embassy/ visa changes would it be better for us to just get married in Cuba?  Or still move forward with the k-1 visa process? I'm just so confused and #45 is not making things any better.

My personal opinion (as someone that went the CR-1 route) is that it is better to get married in Cuba. K-1 isn't proving to be that much faster as of late and if, god forbid, you were rejected following the interview, you have so much more recourse.

Plus, with all of these "travel restrictions," you can just check the "family visit" box without any drama while you guys are waiting.

I also had a wedding for over 100 people for less than $4K (including everything, even my dress). You can't do that in the US :)

That does sound like a good route. Did you have a wedding planner in Cuba?  Or was it something you put together yourself?

I used a wedding planner in Pinar del Rio. He was pretty incompetent though. I would not recommend him.

I was also very adamant about how I wanted stuff decorated, so I ended up buying all of the flowers, fabric, and favors (personalized M&Ms) and carrying them to Cuba myself.

Thank you for the information ☺. I have questions regarding the marriage in Cuba. In order for it to be legalized in Cuba and America what documents will I need?  Is there an information link I can follow re marriage to a Cuban in Cuba? I'm sure you know how overwhelming this situation can be without knowing what is needed. My nerves have been  a mess 😂 any information you can give will be very helpful. Thank you again!

This page covers everything pretty well: https://www.immigroup.com/news/american-cuban-marriage-cuba-guide

I actually paid that company to do all of my paperwork for me. It was an extra $900, but I found it was worth it since they figured out everything I needed for my particular situation and handled all of the correspondence.

You are very lucky DiamondEyes490. I have worries about my case since I married like you did on December 29 of 2016, I sent the I-130 form in January 2017 and received the NOA-1 on February and my husband preference date is January 23 of 2017 and so far I have not receive anything else. Do you think the Service Center may be the cause of our case is taking so long to be processed . Our case is been sent to Service Center Nebraska and right now the timeline dates shows that they are working on January 14, 2017 this date is not been update since November of 2017. I checked the numbers before and after my husband case since you know they are consecutive numbers and all of them have been processing already with the exception of two of them that the numbers that are a little further than my husband number however they have the same priority date (January 23,2017) . Do you think based on your personal experience that the S Center may be the reason of this delay? Thank you

Hello. I think is better if you get married in Cuba for many reasons. First the wedding will be cheaper than in here and you will save money for future needs. Second I think the process for IR is faster than for K-1 which I think obsolete already and last you may have a kind of unique experience getting it done in Cuba, lol. I hope this help.

Hello, I was just recently in Cuba and was looking into how to get married. I was in Havana and went to a place known as "El Bofet," not sure on spelling, and she explained to me that it cost $725 for us to get married, I'm American and he's Cuban, and the marriage certificate would be internationally recognized. I would have to bring my birth certificate translated and stamped by a Cuban consulate in the U.S. as well as my proof of divorce if previously married also translated and stamped, and bring 2 non family members as witnesses. I have a picture of the document if you'd like it. It wouldn't let me upload. Good luck to you!

Hi guys! I'm so glad I found this site, because I'm in serious need of guidance as to how the visa thing works. So far I've read the thread and it appears marrying in cuba would be the best thing... but how does that relate to getting him back in the states? Because I was told that they don't recognize a Cuban marriage at all here in the US. I'm American and my fiancé is Cuban and of course lives in Cuba
