Hi!

Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.. Since I missed most of Monday for the interview, I've been crazy busy at work. but well.. this is what happened:

AOS interview was at 9:45. We arrived at 9:25, passed through security (guy was kind of bored) and went to the check in window where I got finger printed and photo taken.
At around 10:35 I got called in. We both swore to say the truth. The officer asked what evidence did we bring to the interview, so I told him what we brought and gave him the papers (we brought photos, joint bank statements, joint cellphone bill, receipt from ski trip, and health insurance bills) He went through all the photos and papers (he asked about our honeymoon) and then said ok, now we are going to go through your application. I interrupted him to tell him we were moving in a couple of days and asked him what should we do about that, he took the post in with my new address and updated it in the system. Then he literally asked me every single item in form I-485 :girlwerewolf2xn:

I screwed up in one of my previous addresses dates, so I had to explain to him that part.

For some reason he didn't have any of the paperwork I sent regarding my J1 so I gave him my copies of my waiver approval and J1 visa when he got to that part of form I-485.

And that was it.

He said he was going to recommend me for approval, that I will get GC in 2 weeks and that he recommends that every month we save some kind of proof to make it easier on us for whenever we do ROC in 2 years and he commented that we currently have a good proof.

He wasn't rude, but did not laugh at any of the jokes me or my husband made about our honeymoon or how we are working at the same office.

I asked if I had to do anything else regarding my new address.. he said no..

He did not ask for any originals of birth or marriage certificate or anything else but what I already said.. Interview took about ten minutes..

Today I got an email from my.uscis (not the case tracker) telling me a change was made and I logged in and it says my card is in production :jest:.

I feel like this incredible burden was taken from me.. so at peace!! I'm a little worried about this new address thing but not even. The card will arrive when it arrives (if it does hehe)..

I hope this helps someone relax a bit about their interview.. cuz I was freaking out!

Aweseome! our interview in in 3 weeks, and I just know that when this process is done, like you said, this burden will be gone and I can go on with my life!

10/12/2017 | Married! (L)

10/30/2017 | I-130 Package sent via UPS to USCIS. Was initially going to do consular processing.

11/06/2017 | NOA1 Priority Date Nov 6, 2017

12/06/2017 | AOS package sent (EAD, and AP as well). I decided to do concurrent filing/ AOS instead of consular processing. The lawyer I consulted scared me initially about AOS and that concurrent is more a sure thing, but I already work here in US under TN and did not enter with intent to marry.

12/11/2017 | AOS package received and received NOA1 for them all about a week later

12/30/2017 | Biometrics Appointment letter received

01/08/2018 | Biometrics Appointment

01/12/2018 | RFE Received. (I forgot to have my husband sign the affidavit of support. Seriously OMG. I looked everything over 20 times.) Mailed the signed page back 01/13/2018.

01/25//2018 | RFE received. Case update says they will now continue reviewing my case. I was worried I would be sent to back of the line because of the RFE, but it didnt because 6 days later it changed to ready to interview!

01/31/2018 | Online- "case is ready to be scheduled!" Yipee!

02/10/2018 Online case update Interview date May 1!!!!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share our interview experience at the USCIS office in Lawrence, MA, which was actually quite different from the other recent posts! FYI, I'm the petitioner and my wife is the beneficiary.

The appointment was at 8:15 AM and we arrived at 7:30 AM. We passed through security and didn't have to do any fingerprints or photos. Surprisingly, I (the petitioner) was called in by myself around 8:20 AM. I swore to tell the truth, sat down, and then the interviewer began questioning me. On a blank piece of paper, she drew two columns and was writing down my answers in one of the columns so it was obvious that she was going to cross-check my answers with my wife (the beneficiary) later.

Some questions I can remember:

  • Do you live in a house or apartment? How many bedrooms are there? Do you own or rent?
  • When and where we got married
  • How did you meet your wife? - This is actually what I talked about for the majority of the interview. My wife and I are graduate students and the interviewer was actually a little familiar with our field, so I spent a lot of time explaining what I work on, what my wife works on, etc.
  • Have you met her family and vice versa
  • Do you have any vacation plans? - I told her we were going to a gaming convention in a few weeks and she asked what video games we play, a few of which she was familiar with since she had teenage boys

Those are the types of "factual" questions I was asked, which I was happy to answer since I knew all the answers. She didn't ask me any "subjective" questions like what is your wife's favorite color, movie, food, etc. Honestly, it doesn't seem like a lot of questions, but I feel like she was just prodding me to have a conversation about our relationship which lead to us chatting.

After that, she asked if I had any more materials. We didn't file the I-693 medical exam with our initial package so I gave that to her, which was the only thing she kept. I also had our 2017 joint tax return which I showed her and our vacation plans (we printed out emails for hotel reservations) for later this year. We also brought 3-4 photo albums but we never showed them to her. All in all, my interview took ~15 minutes. Then she escorted me out of the room and she interviewed my wife (alone) for about ~5 minutes, and then I was called back in. When I re-entered the room, my wife was smiling and it seemed like her part of the interview had also gone well. It turned out that interviewer was very familiar with one of the places my wife and I are visiting later this year (she said she has literally gone there every year for the past 19 years) so we were honestly just chatting for 10 minutes while she was giving us suggestions on places to see, where to eat, etc. At this point, the interviewer quickly went through the I-485 to verify everything line-by-line and then said we were approved!

My wife said the interviewer basically asked her the same things I was asked before to verify my answers. Overall, I think we got lucky because our interviewer was familiar with several major facets of our life which made the interview feel less like a grilling session and more like a casual conservation. She was very friendly and laughed at our jokes.

For the next few days, I kept checking https://egov.uscis.gov/ for a case update but it still had the previous update: "We scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice." After some Googling, I realized there was ANOTHER site that is much more up to date: https://myaccount.uscis.dhs.gov/. I don't know why there are 2 case status pages, but I recommend everyone use the latter one since it is updated much more frequently (I was getting notifications immediately for that one, whereas the former site would take 7+ days later with the exact same information). Here's what it said:

3/29: We are producing your card and will mail it to you (this was the same day as our interview)

3/30: We approved your case (this is not a typo, this update came AFTER the previous one)

4/2: We mailed your card to you. The U.S. Postal Service will deliver it.

We received the card on 4/5, exactly a week after our interview. My wife and I are both super happy and amazed since everything happened much faster than we expected; we mailed in our application package around Christmas, so the entire process took just over three months. We were originally hoping for it to take less than a year.

Good luck to everyone else and I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions!

My I-765 card is finally being produced! I can't believe it. They didn't mention I-131, the travel authorization. Aren't those two always together in a card?

Past experiences are you are probably going to see approval of i-131 during next few days and the card will be combo.

2 yr GC approved 04/29/2019

10 yr GC approved 06/02/2021

We finally got notice yesterday that my wife's I-765 has been ordered! The online case tracker showed our case being received on 12/22/2017, so that's 112 days.

Also I discovered there are two case trackers: my.uscis.gov and egov.uscis.gov

For her I-485, my.uscis.gov shows an additional notice of "We are scheduling your interview" while egov.uscis.gov just shows "Case was received".

On the other hand, for the I-765 my.uscis.gov just says "Case was received" while egov.uscis.gov shows "New card being produced"

So check both websites if you aren't already.

(I'm a citizen who petitioned AOS for my wife to go from student visa to green card)

12/13/2017 - Mailed I-130, I-485, I-693, I-864 and I-765 to Chicago

12/16/2017 - USPS confirms delivery

12/21/2017 - Received email confirmation, checks are cashed. Receipts in the mail shortly after.

1/11/2018 - Received Biometrics appointment notification for I-485 and I-765

1/22/2018 - Biometrics appointment complete

1/22/2018 - Received notification in the mail that our I-693 is the incorrect version, bring update to interview.

1/29/2018 - I-485 changes to "We are scheduling your interview" but only on my.uscis.gov not egov.uscis.gov

4/13/2018 - I-765 updated to "New Card Is Being Produced"

4/21/2018 - I-765 Received
