Combocard arrived today, yay! :)

Fun thing is, my informed delivery showed me 1 piece of junkmail. Once I marched out to get that out of the mailbox, the priority letter from USCIS was in there, too!
Surprise! :)

YAY!  That's what happened to us too!  So happy for you!

You shouldn't need an EAD or AP to get a drivers' license. I got my DL in my current state of residence before starting the K1 Visa process (I was ~6 months "on vacations" in the US and then returned abroad for K1 and re-entered on K1).

I just had to sign a form at the DMV/DOL swearing I didn't have a SSN, and provide proof of address/residence (bank account statement, cable bill with my name on it), and then the DMV/DOL sent me a letter to my home address and asked me to return to the DMV/DOL when I had that letter (to prove I really lived at that address).

When I returned with the letter proving I lived at that address, they gave me a temporary/learners' permit (they didn't recognize my DL from my Province), went to do a road test with a local driving school a few days later and then got my full 5yr DL.

This was in Washington State.

Every state is very different

In illinois they go off of you no longer being a visitor on vacation once you enter on a k1 visa. Because you are going to stay here permanently you can only drive on your international license for 3 months *Canada anyways not sure if this accounts for all countries.

They will give you a usa license up to your i94 date at the dmv which is 3 months ..however they wont give anything past that because you're not really legal in the usa past that date. This is why many need their ead to prove a new legal "expiry" date. Once the ead is in hand they will extend your license expiry..but there is usually a gap between receiving the ead and your i94 date..for me it was 2 months I couldnt drive.   I still had a Canadian license that was valid but driving on that would be very risky especially incase of accident.

I do know that people have been given licenses in many states that are valid 4 or 5 yrs immediately but from my understanding you're not really legal you're "pending" so I think most need some sort of ead or green card. Or they get lucky and its processed by someone who doesnt know the rules..but I'm not sure how that works when they try to get insurance etc.

In Washington, the license for someone who has no SSN is _supposed_ to be a slightly different colour, but looking at mine and my wife's (USC), I couldn't tell the difference. My insurance company didn't care about my legal status. All they cared about was having a valid US DL and plate on my car. Even had a small accident (a speeding car clipped my front fender while I was changing lanes, was found responsible, insurance didn't make a fuss about covering the claim).

I've also had previously a DL in Florida many years ago (where OP is), over there it was faster, didn't have to wait until I got a letter in the mail. All they wanted to see was proof of address (utilities, bank account), and a copy of my I-94. Printed my I94 off the website. Canadians get 6 months on their I-94 (unless you've left & re-entered the US within 30 days, then they just re-use the same I-94 expiry date as your previous entry). My parents also get FL drivers' licenses while in Florida, even though they're not immigrants, the police doesn't like it if you seem to have been in the State for more than 30 days.

Reading the FL DMV website, it seems if your I-94 is not expired, it's not a problem, but if it's expired, they will take USCIS NOA form instead.

Weird

It may be different in different states but in illinois it says if your intentions are to live here permanently rules differ in regards to traveler drivers.

But anyways yes I got mine while the i94 was valid and yes I also noticed my I'd was different than others ..the top had a skinny red line instead of a thick bold red line on the illinois license.

All good just giving some info :)

Hey guys, I have a quick question. Maybe somebody came across this problem. We got an RFE for green card application because of taxes of my husband for the last year. (we didn’t have enough salary in one of the forms cause he worked a few months and changed his job)

so the question is joint sponsor files taxes with her husband. What to do?

we have got an rfe and need a co sponsor now. My mother in law agreed to be one for us but the thing is she files her taxes with her husband. Will her husband be a co sponsor now too? Does he have to fill out any forms and what form would my mother in law fill out now? Thank you for respond

Hello all!  Just wanted to update....

We received our approval on 4/24.  Received notification of Approval on 4/28.  Today, informed delivery showed only and ad.  When opening the mailbox, we discovered the EAD in the mailbox!  🤡😫

To all those still waiting, it will come soon.  This process is draining, and I appreciate the help/support on this forum for all who have done this.  No one else can comprehend it, until they have gone through it.  I eagerly wait for those still waiting for their approvals/cards....  ❤

We got the new card being produced notification today on the tracker app! Nothing changed on the Uscis account page (the one with login). Our last update was case received 131 days ago. Also noticed the update just changed for EAD and not AP. Hopefully the combo card arrives. Either way we're so exciting after such a long wait!
