So here I am again with more questions, I am beginning to think that it wont end here. So I am filling out my I-31 (application for travel document) the reason that I am filling this out is because if it so happens that I need to leave the country before my AOS is approved, then I can. But in part 4 it asks me to add information about my proposed travel and my proposed trip. But I don't have any reason to leave the country yet and may not, therefore I don't have a proposed trip. So do I leave that part blank?

hmmmmm...I think people actually apply for AP because they have a very good reason for wanting to leave. If you do not have any reason then I don't see them approving it on time or at all....that's just my 2 cents though....Goodluck

Oh ok, I figured that if something were to happen with my family (and I hope it doesn't) and I'd need to leave for a bit, that it would be handy to have that. Maybe I should just leave that form out then.

Thanks to you!

Thanks to you!

My husband filed for the AP too, just incase the need to return home came up and we were not going to be cleared for the greeen card. We put an estimate date of travel, the AP will be good for a specific period of time (one year I think) and the date of travel is not something you will be held to.

ETAL The AP will be approved in approx 3 months. Sometimes the green card comes in 2-4 months. Filing for the SP is a little insurance in case the green card is help up and you want to travel relatively soon after arrival. You can always file for an AP after sending in the intial package is there is no rush for you to be able to have permission to travel in hand.

Hi Winter. (Strangely enough, that's my nickname with some of my friends. Long story. LOL)

Go ahead and apply for your I-131. You are better off having it and not needing it than going throught the stress of needing it and not having it.

Your date of intended departure is "To be determined" and the purpose of your trip would be "In the event of an emergency". Make sure you check off "More Than One Trip" in Section 7.

On the contrary, I have not heard of a single case of someone having their AP denied for not having "a very good reason". What you might be getting mixed up with here is an "emergency AP", rather than the regular AP.
