Hi,

It's time I can book my interview in Montreal, Canada, but the only date opened is Dec 20th, but I'll be travelling to Europe for Christmas Dec 23rd-Jan 3rd. So I think it would be too short obviously for them to send me back my passport on time before I leave. I'm thinking about waiting for an interview date in January when I'll be back, as I'm not in a rush. What do you think? Is it too risky?

In London you can tell them you need the passport for travel and not leave it with them, then your visa will be pending their receipt of your passport, and when you return from traveling you can give them your passport. Perhaps that is also possible in Montreal.

They most probably will offer new dates in January right? I don't want to lose that opportunity and have to wait for like 4 months to have an interview date after that...

New dates will definitely open up, I'm just not sure when they post the next month.  Just keep checking daily.  Or you can book that date and email to see if they can give your passport back after like JoannaV said.  I just am not sure how easy it would be to get your passport to them after.
