OP, based on your posts here, you have been coming to the USA for 2 weeks at a time.  Now you want to come for 6 months.  Seems unusual to want to be in USA for 6 months when you haven't stayed more than a few weeks previously.  Anyway, you've received solid advice here.  You can try for a tourist visa and possibly get that 6 months you want.  Or you can get denied and lose it all.

Yes :) I think I have decided to not risk applying, based on the advice here. I did not know until now a B2 denial would affect the VWP and that's a game changer.

This x 10.

Why not split the difference, OP, and use your VWP to do an initial trip of 3 months? That's a significant time period, but it's not the 0-60 mph of a 6-month visit. Maybe you should figure out how to maximize the opportunities of the privilege you already have rather than risk losing it altogether.

Take it in turns to visit each other, US does not a shack up with BF visa.

It's always good to ask questions so you know your options and the risks.

We have of course considered every option, the B2 is our last resort. There are multiple factors involved which I haven't mentioned because it wasn't relevant to the B2 which is what my thread was about :) but thanks for helping, everyone, I'm glad I found this board before I went ahead and applied.

I've been with my bf for 8 months and we keep traveling back and forth to see each other, but it's getting quite expensive. We don't want to get engaged or married yet so I'm trying to find other options to be together for an extended time. I can go there for 90 days with a visa waiver but I'd really like to be there for 6 months and it seems like B2 is my best option, but from what I'm reading here on the boards it looks difficult. Here's my situation:

Family ties: I have a very strong and unusually close relationship with my parents and my mother is not in good health so I don't want to live in a different country, 6 months is the absolute maximum for me.

Money: I have a part time job at a bookstore, but I also recieve a $1000 disability check per month (I'm disabled but have the ability to work some) which I will still recieve during my US visit, so I can support myself and also don't need to work while I'm there. Also, Norwegian salaries are about twice as high as US salaries, so entering to get a job there makes no sense.

Plans: Stay for free at my boyfriend's house, but he travels for business 3-5 weeks at a time so I want to take this time to see as much of the US as possible by myself and also join him on some of his work trips (North and South America).

Boyfriend plans: we do NOT want to get married and when/if we do, we want to live in Norway because of the many economical benefits here and because of my family.

Do I have a weak case? Is there anything I can do to make it stronger?

You said salary in Norway is twice as high as the States, but consider a round trip ticket regularly priced at 400 USD these days, expensive?

In any case as soon as the officer asks at POE "Who will you visit and who will you stay with?  unless you have reservations at a hotel,  and you say my bf, they can turn you away and say apply for a K1.  your country is not high fraud but the question can  still be asked.   they can assume your intent is to marry here and AOS

It is best to be honest, but not volunteer any information beyond what is necessary.  My husband stated he was visiting me and it was no issue.  OP has been visiting the US and returning home several times already, so this should be less of a concern, if the visit is under VWP.

Because of where we live (no major airports) the tickets are never less than $800-1000. And yes, of course it is expensive when it is every 2-3 months.

My point however was that most people who come to USA to work, do it because it's hard to make a living in their own country - right? I'd have zero financial gain by going to the states for work.

It isnt just work. B2 is for visiting and admittedly they usually stamp you in for 6 months but do not expect that to be the normal stay.

For example I have seen people who work on Oil Rigs who want to spend their off time in the US, earning good money and fairly obviously not working but there will come time when they start wondering where you are living.

US is the land of the 2 week holiday, being able to take that much time off is somewhat unusual, and then saying you want to stay longer because of the cost of the air fares is a bit contradictory.

Good that you decided not to apply. It would not have made sense to a CO that you want to go for 6 months or so because of the air fare (when a round-trip ticket with a 6-month validity is more expensive than a 30-day validity ticket anyway as they are in different fare classes) but you are going to give up your salary for 6 months. And who's to say that the shop will take you back after 6 months?

Then there is the concern you could be going there to work illegally.

Paying for one $1000 round trip ticket instead of three is clearly cheaper, I don't really see why this seems to be unclear to some in here 😊

Small beer compared to not working for 3 or 6 months.

Plus, compared to the cost of immigration in general and maybe your future travel costs (we have to get 5 tickets at that cost + domestic transportation)... it is nothing.  Next trip back to Denmark is probably going to end up costing upwards of $7000.  International relationships are expensive.

It will still be cheaper, I've done the maths. I'll also be doing remote work for a Norwegian company while I'm away - which, no worry, I've checked, it's allowed.

Of course I've thought about these things. Sigh.
