Hey everyone :D

My name's Stacie and I'm a natural born US citizen. I'm here due to having met the love of my life from Australia online two years ago. We met late last year for the first time in person, and recently got engaged this April. We are in the grueling process of planning out our financial situation before we start down the road of immigration via a spousal visa

Fun fact: I'm 22, he's 53. I came on this site in hopes of gaining lots more knowledge for him and I, and to hopefully connect with others in a similar circumstance.

Is anyone else here in a foreign relationship with a significant age gap? :)

Welcome to the forums. :)

This site is a wonderful resource for anything and everything US visa related.

There are many couples here with large age gaps who have successfully completed the visa process. The fact that your significant other is from Australia will make it a bit easier to get over the age gap hurdle, since the Sydney consulate is generally considered low fraud and likely won't ask too many questions about the age difference.

If you are going through the visa process and will be interviewing in Casablanca, Morocco, join us over at the

US-Morocco Visa Discussion Facebook Group! :)

Thanks for the response :) You're also in the Chicago area? Welcome to America and congrats, by the way(:

Craig (fiance's name, haha) and I originally wanted to see if his special work qualifications could land him an E3 visa, but we had way too many issues trying/hoping he could get here on a work visa to start. So, then we considered filing for the k1. But then, I went to an attorney, was guided through k1 versus spousal visas, and it seems we've made our decision to with the marriage then straight to AOS route.

We talked on webcam last night; he may be coming in February to start the process! :D Stoked.

I am 54 and my wife 28. We got married last month and I will soon be filing for a spouse visa. After research I also felt that a spouse visa was a much better choice. Just do your research and ask questions when needed in the appropriate forum and you can do all of the processing on your own without the need of a lawyer. You are lucky in the fact that Australia is a low fraud country and also very easy to be able to travel to USA due to the visa waiver program. Good luck to you.

Hey! Thanks for replying. :) My fiance and I feel the same way. In our type of circumstance (being in an age-gap commitment), society is far more prone to looking down on our type of relationship, accusing the younger woman for being a gold digger, and the older man for "robbing the cradle". The k1 visa is great and all, but we felt that with the potential "red flag" of age, we could have a harder time with USCIS and the Sydney Consulate.

Of course, due to age and immigration, my family is extremely against my choice to marry Craig. I hired an attorney a few weeks back to confirm if Craig and I technically even stab a chance at doing this financially. Turns out, I'm definitely going to need a joint sponsor. Based off our attorney's advice, it's still feasible, but if we can't find someone (has to be one of our mutual friends in the states; my family would NEVER co-sponsor him).  That's our bucketload of stress. :'D

Congrats on the successful visa journey so far and CONGRATULATIONS on your wedding! :)

Yup, I live in the Chicago area with my husband who came here in July on a K1 visa:D

Yes, it's true that the spousal visa is the better option these days, with K1s taking longer and longer to process (speed was really the only advantage a K1 visa had). With the spousal visa, he will be able to work and travel soon after arriving in the US.

Congratulations! It's the most amazing feeling in the world when this process FINALLY starts to come to fruition for both parties involved.

Confidently agree on the spousal visa choice. Our lawyer said that Trump administration may just in fact be playing a role in why there's been a decline in k1 processing speeds. :o Ultimately, there is no wrong choice; both choices basically result in the same outcome and meet the same requirements, financially and bonafide wise. So, there is no escape from the inevitable financial requirements. Lol.

Need a joint sponsorrrrr badlyyyyy :o:o Scared we won't be able to make it work out.
