I tried to search the forum buy couldn't find what I was looking for.

So I'm just trying to be ahead a little bit and have everything figured out before the, most likely, approval of I-130 comes back, and was wondering about the I-864 form and proof of assets and the like.

At the moment, both me and my wife live abroad, and I'm working full-time and wife part-time.

My income is very good, hers not so good. But our total balance of assets, cash and stocks and properties, are very good.

But filling in the form about sponsor and all that, what are we supposed to do, since I haven't filed any taxes to the US, but my wife has (she's American), and all of our documents, bank statements etc, are in Swedish and in Swedish currency.

Figured we're not the first people to think about this, so I'm sure we'll get some good tips from you guys who have been through this already :)

During the immigration process, your spouse will file the Affidavit of Support (I-864), where it states that if the sponsor's financials exceed the Federal Poverty Guidelines for the household, the sponsor do not need to submit additional assets to supplement the income. So first step is to figure out where you stand against this guideline.

If your spouse's income falls below the Federal Poverty Guideline, you may include your own assets (Swedish assets by filling out form I-864A and converting the currency to USD), if you meet the below requirements:

1. The intending immigrant has the same principal residence as the sponsor and the intending immigrant can establish that his or her income will continue from the same source, even after acquisition of lawful permanent residence; or

2. The intending immigrant is the sponsor’s spouse and the intending immigrant can show that his or her income will continue from the same source after acquisition of lawful permanent residence.

Hope that clarifies the requirements for the financial portion.
